So I was finally diagnosed with PCOS. Dont ask why it took so long, but the great thing is it was finally done.
I get to start seeing an endocrinologist next month. I hope this all helps me physically, emotionally and all of the above. This might sound stupid, but i feel like im not a woman, i dont feel right in my own skin.... its sooo dishartening. Any words of encouragement, or advice from you ladies is most welcome.
My test results make a little sense, but honestly not much. I had my blood work done by my PCP, and now headed to a specialist.
DHEA SULF - 492
Testosterone Free - 3.50
According to my PCP, those are extremely high.
I havent had a cycle in almost 3 years, before that 2, before that maybe once or 2 per year. Steady weight gain since i first started having symptoms. Whenever i would tell a Dr. about them, they dismissed it as part of my weight gain. " The reason why you are not having a cycle is directly related to your weight"
Thats great and wonderful but not what you want to hear when you are going through an emotional roller coaster.
I keep going back to how i was even 5 years ago... The social butterfly, about 75 lighter. Now.... i just... well ill stop there....
If no one reads this, at least I will have gotten some stuff off my chest.
Its so frustrating.... I know you all know this and have gone through the same things. After 10 years finally I have an answer and now another month of waiting to see the endo... then hopefully on some meds.
Im a carboholic... this low carb thing is kicking my butt.
I'm just stressing about a lot of things...
thanks for being my journal and my way of venting
Hi Lisa! Wanted to let you know someone did read your "way of venting". I know what you mean. I've was Dx 9 yrs ago and I'm just now finding out what's really wrong w/ me. I just started Metformin and hoping that will help me. I'm w/ ya on the carbs. I don't even eat meat but don't eat many veggies either so it's pasta and potatoes for me! Hang in there. Things will get better.

Christina,
Im not necessarily the best person to answer this. I have had symptoms for almost 10 years now, but finally was just diagnosed. As far as whats to come, i believe it varies from person to person, and depending on what type of PCOS you have. With me, my physical symptoms are almost all of them, but my health about half. I dont have an insulin problem, but physically here is my list.
Weight Gain- I gained almost 50 lbs in a span of 6-12 mo. Eventhough i was active, I have always played sports and tried to excersize regularly, but it didnt help. Weight gain especially around the tummy area... "apple shape" my hips are about 8 inches smaller than my waist.
Acne- Pretty much since puberty, but surprisingly Proactiv has helped a lot.
Acanthosis Nigricas- I believe is the spelling, but its the darkening and thickening of the skin, a lot of PCOS ladies get it around there neck, the back of the legs, in the inner thighs etc.
Skin Tags- Around the neck area ( usually around the darkening of the skin ), eyelids etc.
Irregular, or non existing menstrual cycles. For me I havent had a cycle in 3 years.. Its been a while, i have even forgotten what cramps felt like.
Hair Loss- For me this just started to happen about a year ago... i'm half asian and half polish, so i have always had lots of thick hair. Its definetly gotten to the point where people notice it now. I have just learned to try and ignore it. Just like the comments of are you pregnant, or expecting.
Excess hair growth on my face, legs, stomach, back etc. Hirsutism. This to me causes a problem with my self image and self esteem just like the weight gain and hair loss. I used to be extremely open and fun and outgoing, that has definetly changed. My fiancee has even commented on the fact that i dont like meeting new people like i use to. THis all puts a damper mentally physically and emotionally. This forum has started to help me. They have threads on how's your self image today. Women going through the same thing as me posting, " I feel GOOD today" Today is a good day!! That lifts my spirits tremendously.
I hope I can help, and just know that I'm here with you.. living it every day... you are not alone, and together with all the rest of these wonderful women we can help eachother through this!!!
ty`s so much aggain for taking the time out for me. I wish u the best and any on else out there that has to deal with this. I take one day at a time, and always say tomorrows another day
