Default after eating do you crave sweets?

I have a question for those that are type 2 and on byetta. After I inject and I eat my meal, I crave sweets something horrible. I don't know why, but I've always craved sweets after eating. Does anyone else have those cravings? Thanks for your responses.

Well, I"m not on byetta, but I figured I'd take a crack at answering.

Usually, the times when I crave sweets are when I've had refined carbs. Like, if I eat a meal with mashed potatoes and stuffing (thinking of Thanksgiving coming up) my body will process those carbs so quickly, because they are so refined.....my blood glucose will spike really high at about 45 minutes and by 90 minutes I'll be crashing....my blood glucose will be dropping far and fast.....from near the 200 mark down to about 50.

The reaction to that, in my body, is to crave the one thing that will halt that speedy plummet and keep me from (possibly) going hypoglycemic....which is pure carbs....aka: sweets, sugar.

(I also crave sweets terribly when I have PMS....for no good reason!)

SO! If the carbs in your meals are white flour/white sugar/refined carbs then for one week try going for whole grains, high fiber carbs, balance all your carbs with a good amount of protein and fiber so they don't digest so quickly. See if that takes care of the craving problem.

Anyway....that's what worked for me!

Good luck!

Thanks for your responses. My blood sugar does go up with my meals, but it doesn't drop quickly. I eat a well balanced lunch. I have always craved a piece of candy after eating lunch. I don't do it after any other meal. So, I pop a piece of sugar free candy in my mouth and that satisfies the craving. weird huh?? I just find it strange. Once I have a piece of candy I am fine.
