Default After Prometrium.?.?.?.

I have a question about Prometrium and AF. I just started seeing an RE and he told me to take prometrium 200mg for 14 days starting 110809 and then for 12 days after I O. My question is why would I take prometrium if I have had AF every month for the last 6 months with no help? I ask he and he said he wanted to make sure I did. Will taking it for 14 days cause AF to be heavier and what do you ladies think about only taking it for 7 days? I don't want to disregard everything the doctor told me but I feel like 14 days is alot.
Also, how long after the last pill is AF to start???
Thank you all !

Some people have low progesterone after they O and they might need prometrium for that. If you haven't been tested though, I don't see why the dr would want you to take it. I guess he doesn't trust that you're actually Oing when you think you are. Personally I wouldn't take it after I knew I ovulated unless I had been diagnosed with low progesterone.

I took Prometrium for 10 days and it took almost 2 weeks after I stopped taking it for me to get my period. You're supposed to get your period after only a few days but for some reason the progesterone takes a long time to leave my body (my temps continued to be elevated until I got my period). I really had to take it though because I had not had a period in over 4 months. Provera took a little less time to start my period, only a week after I stopped taking it. My periods were not noticeably heavier.

It sounds like he's giving you prometrium for progesterone support. Everyone reacts differently to progesterone supplements. But a common cause for women with infertility and PCOS is low natural progesterone, sometimes too low to even allow an egg to implant good.
If you are really concerned about it, then ask your doctor specifically why he wants you to take the prometrium and why.
Not all doctors explain things in detail and with reasoning, because well, frankly a lot of people just don't care....its unfortunate because dr's can sometimes get used to this, and it causes frustration with those of us who want to know the who, where, what, why, when and how's. Sometimes dr's just need a little 'push' in that direction, or just need to find out that you are that way.
HTH and good luck!
