Default Afternoon snack ideas?

I get really hungry in the afternoon no matter what I eat for lunch, and I often go to Curves right after work, so it may be after 7 pm when I eat. I get hypoglycemic or at the very least draggy if I don't eat a snack. I'm not organized enough to get a cooler with cheese or yogurt together in the morning, and it's often not as cold as I like it by afternoon anyway. I can't find a protein bar that I can get down without gagging.

I wind up going to the vending machine and eating either peanut M&Ms, peanut butter & crackers, or trail mix. None of those keep me from getting hungry an hour or so later, so I'm sure none of them have enough protein. I read a hint in a magazine that said it is better to have a peanut butter sandwhich on high fiber bread than the pb crackers in the vending machine. I've tried it, and it seems to be working very well for me. I can slap some pb on whole wheat bread on throw the sandwich in a baggie in my purse. It's not quite linked and balanced for the IR diet, but I could always buy low carb bread or just eat one slice a bread if I wanted to be a perfectionist.

Does anybody else have any ideas for afternoon snacks that get you through until a late supper?

Hi, I couldn't tell if you were on the IR diet - it sounded like you were.
How about:
an apple
no sugar added p-nut butter on celery sticks
sugar free, low fat yogurt
Two Tbs nuts and a cup of V8 juice
a cottage cheese double
string cheese with crackers
little can of tuna w/crackers

May be easier to take with you.

Good luck

I don't know much about the IR Diet but I find that a handful of baby carrots and a spoonful of peanut butter is nice in the afternoon. The crunchiness wakes me up if I'm feeling sluggish. Good luck.
