Default AHHH going crazy! HELP!

So I made a post a bit ago about getting changed to metformin HCL ER

Now I got the prescription refilled at walmart, and it's just metformin ER (no HCL) plus the pills look different.

I"m so confused. Does anyone know the difference?? Or is it just another 'generic' form.

I guess if it's a generic can different companies make it? and perhaps that's just the way a different company stamps it??

I don't know. I'm very confused and I'm leaving for washington DC tomorrow and now I'm scared to take it and get met gut

The same thing happened to me. But, at first, I thought it was just the fact that the bottle had changed. I too, got mine at Wal-Mart and I honestly like Metformin ER, better than Metformin HCL ER anyway.
(They both do the same thing.)So, I decided to just take them and now that I have been taking Metformin ER, for about a month, I've noticed that I'm not tired anymore! In my case, I do seem to have less side effects. But, everyone is different. So, who knows with your case?

And if you're that concerned, this is what I'd do: I'd call my doctor and explain what happened. I'd see what he/she thinks about it and if he/she thinks it's best for me to be on Metformin HCL ER, than I'd suggest that once I'm able to locate a pharmacy, in D.C., than I'd call him/her back and give them the pharmacy number. That way, the doctor could just call in for the prescription and I could pick it up.

Hope it works out for you...

what is the difference between ER and HCL? (I take HCL... at least that is what the pharmacy label says).

Thanks Keebie. I feel a bit better.. maybe it's just the kind walmart carries?? I'm just so paranoid anymore because everytime I screw with dosages and whatnot I get soo sick. And I really want to enjoy my time in DC, not be in the bathroom all day dieing.

I guess that's why I've shyed away from walmarts pharmacy (Plus when i called there to complain that I didn't get enough pills the lady was rude). My regular pharmacy would take the time to explain everything to me :-/ But, a 15 dollar co-pay vs 4.50 at walmart for the same pill... I can't ignore the cost ya know.

Anyway... tmrw I think I'll call my usual pharmacy and just ask them to explain it to me. Even though I didnt get the pills there I'm sure they will. They are good people.
