Default Alcohol okay?????

I was wondering if it's ok to have a few drinks tonight? I would stretch them out so I will have only a couple. Just wondering if anyone has tried???? Thanks. Sara

I personally wouldn't drink if there was even a remote possibility of being pregnant. I've seen what it can do (I work in a neonatal ICU). But it would be ok if u weren't trying to conceive or you knew for sure you were not pregnant.

In regard to alcohol and met consumption, more than a couple (as in 2) drinks is not advisable on Metformin. I asked my RE about it a while back and he suggested to skip the dose before and after drinking if you are planning on having more than a moderate amount of alcohol. But this was personal advice given to me, so I would advise you ask your own doc about your concerns with mixing alcohol and met.

On a side note- my bottle of met from the pharmacy comes with a warning label that says "Do not drink alcohol while on this rx".

I was also advised to have no alcoholic beverages while on this medication.. I don't think I would risk it either. I want to say I read in the warning pamphlet thinger that comes with the Rx that you can have a small amount (like one or two drinks) but that's it. Otherwise, yeah skip the doses before and after would be good advice too. Good luck, and if you drink report back on what happens ok

Angry Just say No!!

I am suffering from the "hangover" from hell. I decided to do the champagne thing for Valentines Day.....Big Mistake. I was vomiting bile all morning long. (proabably tmi)

Of course, that was just what it did to me. I also feel like I got "buzzed" much quicker than normal.

So my advice is Be carefull with met and booze

I have had a few drinks while on metformin and I got "buzzed" a lot quicker than normal and I got really red and hot. The best advice is to talk to your doctor and then decide
Take care,
Mel

I honestly wouldn't drink with the Met. I had a couple days that I had went out before and only had about 3 drinks and felt hungover for two or three days...but the last time I went out which was 4 months ago I had a very bad reaction and was taken to the ER. Learned my lesson well and won't ever drink again.

Ok, the effects will definitely be different for everyone. My advice is to either don't do it, ask your doctor, or do what CT said and skip the dose that night drink a couple SLOWLY (it does get you drunk faster!!), and skip the next dose.

I used to take my doses after dinner, which was before I went out, and I would get drunk. I've never had a hangover or throw up, etc. and it never did anything bad to me. But that's just me.

Good luck and have fun!!!

Thought I would let you all know that I had one drink on Saturday and it didn't affect me any more than it would have normally. I took it slow however since it was so large (a pint of amaretto sour) phew.. big drink! Anyways, thought I should post and say that

Hi everyone!! Thanks for responding. Sorry it's taken me so long to reply, but I have felt alittle under the weather.

Just to let you know what happened. Well I had decided that a couple(I mean ONLY 2 throughout the whole night) would not hurt anything and I would skip the dose that I take at supper. Well that was a big mistake, because I was up Sunday morning, vomiting, and felt like !&@# all day Sunday and Monday. Today, I'm starting to feel better.

I guess I'd say I have learned my lesson and I won't try that again!!! Thanks again, Sara

Default DONT DRINK ON MET

I had the same question when I started taking Met. I like to go out on weekends and at times have more than a few drinks. When I started taking MET i had a talk with my doctor. She told me it can be very harmful if you have more than a few drinks with met due to it metabolizing in the liver. Alcohol and met can really damage the liver and that is why the recommend not to drink on MET> I asked about skipping a dose in case I have a few drinks and she said it does not matter due to the half life of the MET and told me very seriously not to drink. This has been a lifestyle change for me but one for the best concering my health and my liver!

Thanks for the info. I'm going to make a life style change also. I don't mind not being able to drink, what I hate is friends wondering why I'm not drinking. I haven't went into the whole ttc topic with any of them and I'm not ready too. You can only say you don't feel good, or you don't feel like drinking, so many times
