Has anyone taking this before? My RE prescribed this to me in August for my acne and I have read so many article online that this is not safe while TTC. When I last saw my RE I asked him and he got mad at me saying "he knows what he is doing and this doesnt harm the fetus if you stop it after discovering pregnancy". This got me so upset that I am changing to a new doctor. Any thoughts?

I don't have any experience with this med but I would be looking for a new dr too if mine talked to me that way about something I was genuinely worried about.
I take the generic aldactone, which is called spironolactone. If I were TTC I would not be on this medication. It can adversely affect development of a male child by creating a more estrogen environment (I think). This drug is FDA preg. category C. C = higher chance of birth defects seen with this drug in animal tests (but hasn't been studied in humans). Your dr. is taking a chance by suggesting you get off the medication after discovering pregnancy, rather than avoiding this drug altogether if TTC.
Aside from this problem, I like the drug for controlling acne and slowing facial hair growth and have used it for yrs.

Wow that is really shocking. I was on this a couple years ago (given to me by my dermatologist) and she made absolute certain I was on BCP and had no plans of TTC any time soon. No way I'd take that (which sucks, b/c it's the ONLY thing that keeps my skin clear) that when TTC. And I wouldn't trust an RE that told me to.
Granted, thsoe of us this into TTC practically know we're pregnant right away. Well, before someone who at 8 weeks pregnant goes "hmm I think I missed a period..." so it's not like you'd be taking it that long (and you could stop in a 2ww I guess), but I would never ever chance that.

Believe, glad you found a new dr. who is more sensible. Have a Merry Christmas!
