Thumbs up For all the adoptive parents

Just wanted to say to all those who adopt, plan to adopt, want to adopt, or have adopted...from my heart, thank you.

I am a birth mother. I had my first daughter when i was young and had it not been for a truly remarkable couple who could not have children of their own, I don't know what would have happened. She will be 15 this year and there is not a year that goes by that I don't celebrate her birthday, and I think of her often. I have never regretted my choice. I know deep within my faith it was the right one for both of us.

I went through a Christian adoption agency because the state rejected me based on my health problems. I knew the minute I read their profile that this was the right couple for my daughter. Something within me just resonated. I believe it was God telling me this was the family He needed my daughter to go to. Theirs was only the 2nd profile of approved couples I read. I didn't need to go any further.

The adoption was a closed one. I never met them though I would have been happy to. The adoptive parents were given a choice to have open or closed adoption and they chose closed. I respect their choice whole heartedly. And though I have a 3 yr old daughter now, she will always know she has an older half sister out there somewhere, even if they never meet. I hope they do one day. I hope she comes to find me when she turns 18. I signed a release with the adoption agency that when she is of age all she has to do is ask and the agency always has current information on me so they know where I am.

The couple I chose allowed me to name her, and they kept that as one of her middle names. I can't tell you how honored that made me feel. They didn't have to. The agency required them to send photos every month for the first six months. These remarkable people sent me photos up until she was 3 years old.

She's known she is adopted from the day she was born, and how very special she is. The agency believes that the earlier a child knows he or she is adopted, by the time they're old enough to really know what it means, it will have been such a regular, ordinary part of their lives that they won't feel a sense of lost identity later on. I certainly hope they are right.

I felt humbled, honored, and deeply blessed and grateful for people like you all who accepted or would accept a baby like my own girl into your hearts and homes.

I have adopted and have nothing but love, admiration, and respect for my son's biological mom. In my heart next to Christ, she and all biomom's are the real heros...for without her or biomoms we would not be able to experience the most profound miracle...becoming a mom and being allowed to love and raise a child.

Thank you for what you have done from the bottom of my heart and sharing your story...!
