Hello everyone... I'm new to the site as of tonight and just wanted to "check in" and introduce myself. I was diagnosed with PCOS over 7 years ago but, at that time, my doctor didn't know how to treat me so he sent me on my way. I suffered from uncontrolable weight gain, total lack of periods and, of course, infertility. I went through the usual, "you're just fat, you'd get pregnant if you'd lose weight..." and so on. I've been through every Dr. and diagnosis in the book. A month ago I told a friend she was looking so thin and she said, "thanks! I've got PCOS!" She got me in touch with her Endo Dr. who re-diasnosed me and I'll be starting Met this week. Luckily for me, I inexplicably lost 60 pounds one year and immediately became pregnant with my son (now 2 1/2). Shortly thereafter came my daughter, turning 1 NEXT WEEK! Now that i'm finally getting treatment for this, I'm scared. I've ballooned to a weight I won't share with ANYONE and if I can't lose weight, now it will REALLY be my fault! Are people having decent luck with the Met? I've been reading posts but don't know if they're the norm or the lucky exceptions... Also, I have a sister who is quite thin and has suffered from infertility herself for many years. Should I have her get checked for the syndrome? I don't know of any other symptoms she has had but two infertile sisters, one with PCOS, doesn't seem a coincidence. Anyway, sorry for rambling and glad to be here.
Hi and welcome. I would tell your sister to get checked. We have a lot of thin cysters here on the board.
When I started on met I lost 30 pounds and my cycles became regulated. For me, Met has been wonderful! I found that I started staying away from all the yummy stuff. You know, baked goods starches candy. And I have a huge sweet tooth. One of the "side effects" of met is suppressing the appetite. When the doc told me that I said "darn"!!!!!! But for me met has been great!!
Once I got the met to the right dose for me I had great luck with it....becoming pg and having the baby has changed my body a bit and now even though I am back on the dose that worked for me in the past it isn't as helpful this time....I'm gonna give it a few more cycles and then see about bumping up the dose.
