Default To all that have had miscarriages.

I hope you don't mind me asking and you don't have to reply if you don't feel like doing so.
I'm just trying to figure out if miscarriages are related to pcos (i know women who don't have pcos and have recurrent miscarriages) or if it's a genetic thing.

I just had my blood drawn for so many genetic tests that i'm scared to know the results.

How many miscarriages have you had?
Have you had genetic tests done and if so, which ones? Where they all normal?
Have you been told that your losses are due to pcos or genetic issues?
I'm so confused right now

Thanks in advance for your response.

I'm sorry you're going through a rough and confusing time. Unfortunately with pcos, which is a syndrome rather than a disease because of its mixed messages, there aren't many cut and dry answers.

A lot of miscarriages, particularly in the first trimester can be due to poor egg quality and low progesterone, both pcos related or not. Random healthy women have a poor egg once in a while or hormone fluctuations, but it is a common problem with pcos moms. Many times it is hard to diagnose exactly what caused the m/c, especially after the fact, so that adds to the confusion.

Some cysters also have clotting disorders that do not allow the uterus to receive adequate blood flow for a pregnancy. After diagnosis with this, a woman can take certain thinners that allow a healthy pregnancy to go to term.

Some cysters, only a few I know of, specifically have chromosomal problems, and this would be in addition to pcos rather than because of pcos. Quite a few women here with multiple losses have had genetic testing, and virtually everyone has had normal results. Some have longed for an answer of any kind and just wish something would look abnormal and explain what's happening.

With second trimester losses, I do believe that pcos or some of the abnormal hormone levels caused by it are leading to incompetent cervix in some cysters. It sometimes disguises itself as ruptured membranes, infection in the uterus, and other diagnoses, but I think that some of us open up early because of the hormones that pcos has dealt us. This is the category I fall into.

2 that I know of, but I am sure many others that I was too early to know about.

I have not had any testing done, I was told that they do not start doing testing until after 3 m/c and that it was very expensive to have done.

I was told that my m/c's were due to weak eggs since I ovulated so late in my cycles with those pregnancies. However, with my son, I ovulated on cd27, which is that latest with any of the 4 pregnancies, and I, obviously, didn't m/c him.

I am so sorry for what you have been through and are going through. A loss is never an easy thing, and unfortunantly most of us will never have answers as for why we lost our babies. I wish you luck with the testing that you have had done. I hope you are able to get some answers. Hugs.

ladies I am new to this forum, thought I would drop in and put in my two sence!
I have had 2 mc. One was a missed miscarriage, found out at 13 weeks, lost it at 9.
the second was at 5 weeks. My dr told me to go to a specialist to see why I was having them and I never did, we decided to wait until we were ready to try again to go through that, I have been taking Vitex, a hormonal suppliment, for my moods (it worked great) and I think I might be pg again. I am having all the symptoms, it is to early to test though. My symptoms seem to be stronger than before, I hope that is a good sign!!

Here is my story:

I had a missed miscarriage at 11 weeks. Baby was measuring 8 1/2 weeks. I had a D&C and had the testing done and she had a chromosome issue. Trisomy 18. The testing was pricy but insurance did pay for it. I wasn't sure if they would since it was the first time anything happened.

I hope this helps some.

Please get tested for blood clotting disorders? (Thrombophilia..Factor V, MTHFR) after my m/c's my new Dr. found that I have a blood clotting disorder that causes m/c...and I am now 24 weeks along and have been injecting myself 2x aday with blood thinners since week 4...please look into testing for this!!
I happened to get tested after conceiving this baby (during week 10) BUT my Dr. thought I might have some type of thrombophilia and started me on blood thinning injections ASAP (week 4) and that saved this baby!!!

I tested positive for 2 copies of MTHFR A1298c meaning both my parents were carriers...my Dr. then recomended my sister (not married-not pg) get tested...SHE HAS IT TOO! only one copy..but this test could have saved her from future m/c...
I think you should say that it runs in your family...to avoid insurance problems...
you probably don't have a blood clotting mutation..but you never know!
good luck!

I got tested for some of the tests that you mentioned before. I have been told that one of the test came back with abnormal results. Protein C deficiency. My doctor says she's going to refer me to a hematologist so we'll go from there.
thanks again for your replies.

Misscarriages are definitly caused by PCOS, in fact i dont remember the exact number, but it caused by the LH surge in your body, you need to talk to your doctor and there are things that can do to try to prevent them, it also can be due to your progesterone.
just so you know that this is most definetly a PCOS thing, i have misscarried once and been unable to conceive seince,if you need to talk let meknow
Good luck and God Bless

i have had 4 m/c and all testing has been normal. My 20 week m/c was due to monoamniotic twins ( one twin had cardiac valve problems) and ic. The early m/c, never found out about. i think i just need a 2nd opinion from new dr with bright ideas.

I did not read any of the other responses, sometimes its just too hard.

I had 4 miscarriages, one in 1993 which was an awful situation. The other three were with Dh between 2000 and 2005. They found that I had a bicornuate uterus and think this was the cause of at least one of the m/c's. Then they found I have blood clotting factors, MTHFR and APA. So we are not really sure what caused them.

Good luck to you and my thoughts and hugs are with you during this time.

I have had 4 losses (seen in my siggy). Also in my siggy is my chart, it lists all the tests and everything I have been thru since Nov. 2001. Feel free to look at it all, it is very hard to type it all out again. I am coming up on one anniv. and that is the hardest one I have to dela with (m/c #2).

How many miscarriages have you had?
I have had 2 + 1 stillbirth. First one was in July of 05. Bailey JO was an embryontic pregnancy, as we did conceive but the child never formed. Maya Ruth--still at 24 weeks. September 06. Due to low fluid and IC. Avery Rae--latest one January of 07. 7 w 1 day. No idea--

Have you had genetic tests done and if so, which ones? Where they all normal?
Never had testing done

Have you been told that your losses are due to pcos or genetic issues?
We were told that #1 and #3 were due to PCOS but #2 was just bad luck

I've had two.
First was at 12w but fetus sized for 8w. Had D+C.
Second was twin blighted ovums. Had D+C.
Docs said everything was normal and that it was just luck. I don't think they did any genetic tests. I also have a bicornuate uterus that is/was not a factor in miscarriage/pregnancy.

I am suspicious that hormones may have been to blame for the two m/c. While pregnant with my son, I constantly had problems then had problems breastfeeding (and my pathetic supply dried up within 3 months of delivery.) I'd say that above posters are right about the PCOS hormaone issues can cause m/c.
