All natural meat and organic dairy and produce... Does it make a difference?
We have been talking with a man that provides meat that is antibiotic and hormone free. Also been thinking about getting organic dairy and produce from the grocery store. We know it is going to cost us more (and we are on a pretty tight budget), but as a biology major I know that the long-term effects of having meat and dairy injected with hormones means fertility issues for humans. I also know that pesticides are really horrible for you!
SO, what do you think? Has this made a huge difference in your health? Of course, my mom (in her 50's) has said that if she is okay and she has been eating this stuff at the supermarket for years, that we ought to chill out. But, is she really okay? Super heavy periods, major period pain, overweight, high cholesterol... Gosh, doesn't seem okay to me!
I am looking for any opinion! Thanks!

I ONLY buy organic dairy and it has made a HUGE difference. I WISH organic meat was more readily available, if it was that's all I would buy also. I try to buy organic when I can, but I am VERY particular about having organic dairy (especially milk, now). I TRUELY think that some of the epidemic of infertility relates to the easily accessed CRAP that's out there. And, unfortunantly it is a little more expensive (which is why we were never organic before), but now that we are better off, that is ALL I will buy, and if I had the opportunity you do to buy SUCH high quality meat, I would be VERY happy. I say take him up on his offer. Even if you don't really physically feel any different, you'll KNOW you aren't being pumped with more hormones (Like us PCOSers need MORE hormones)

i only start eating organic for the past 2months now and only eat chicken because thats the only meat thye have in the store which is organic.
If you can afford it go for it not only for fertility pruporse but other health factors

It partly depends on where you live. Here in Canada, for example, all our dairy is hormone free, and we can get some non-organic meats that are also free from a lot of the chemicals that are out there, like chicken for example.

Hmm I was told by my acupuncturist that cows milk has hormones in it here in Canada so I switched to almond milk. I also eat mostly organic but have a hard time buying hormone free meats without paying a lot for it. I am mostly eating chicken, turkey and fish though.
I can honestly say it has made some difference but I have only been doing it for about 6 weeks. My dark skin patches are lightening up and my hair growth has slowed down. DH was the first to point it out which made me feel even more motivated to keep going. Good Luck!

If it gives you peace of mind, then that may be reason enough.
DH and I were at a resort a few years ago and were really shocked at how "developed" young girls had become. It does make me more vigilant about paying up for organic meat, especially as far as my kids are concerned.
I also just signed up for my local food co-op, which makes me feel much better about less packaging, which is my personal pet peeve, and that my food won't have to travel as far to get to me. I also buy a lot of organics at Trader Joe's.

Wow...after reading this, I'll definitely be visiting my neighborhood Publix to check out the organic dairy - do you get it at a regular grocery store or a specialty store? Cant say I have ever looked for it?
you can get it at the regualr stores~! it's way worth the little extra money, IMO.

I read a really good book about the food industry here in America. It is called The Omnivore's Dilemma. He even discusses different ways that different farms interpret "organic". Personally, I think it is valid to try to get as much organic meat, dairy, etc. as is available to you. You may want to look for other clues besides just an organic label, though, such as grass-fed beef instead of corn-fed. Cost can be an issue.

I have made an appointment with a Naturopathic doctor, and she and I are going to discuss diet as part of my overall PCOS plan. I am SO pumped to learn more... I will update you! My appointment is next Wednesday.
