Unhappy Almost 100% I have PCOS...

Hi! I came upon this site as I was searching...yet again, for what could possibly be wrong with me. After reading many threads on this site and researching PCOS, I am positive I have PCOS!

I have an appointment with a gynecologist on November 29th. I will be printing out and bring a lot of the information I've come across about PCOS.

Anyway, I'll introduce myself, as I'm sure I'll be coming back in the future for friendship and advice from people who are going through the same thing.

My name is Tammy. I am 33 years old. I have been married to my highschool sweetheart for 10 years. I have been blessed with two beautiful children, Emily who just turned 9 and Noah who just turned 7. I thank god my problems with my cycle, started after my last child! I live in Ontario and have been a stay at home Mom since I had my little girl. My husband and I now own and run a Refrigeration/Air Conditioning and Heating Company.

I have never had a "normal" menstrual cycle. I was later getting my period around 15 and it has never been a 28 day cycle. I had very painful periods early on and my GP put me on BCP's. I was on BCP's until I wanted to try for my first child....so around 8 years. I got pregnant the first month we tried. I went back on BCP's until I wanted to try for #2, and was lucky enough to get pregnant the first month we tried, again.

Now this is where I noticed my cycle was extremely out of whack. I didn't go back on the pill, as my husband had a vasectomy soon after #2 was born. I started with my cycle being around 40 days apart....then it went to 60....70...and it just kept getting longer and longer between cycles. I am now at almost 5 months since my last period.

I have severe acne, gained 30 pounds since I had my son. ( I was always a very slim person). I'm 5'6 and weigh almost 170, most of it in my middle. I have dark hair growing on the back of my thighs, and other weird places that I never had before. My facial hair is light in color but much thicker than ever. My joints ache alot, and I've started snoring in the last couple of years. I have a chronic dull ache in my lower left back and lower abdomen. I have NO desire to be intimate with my husband, and when I do, it is very uncomfortable. I am always tired, and always feel "a little out of it"...does that make sense?

I have talked to my GP and another Gynecologist and have ended up NO WHERE! I am frustrated and scared. I am a young woman and don't think missing my period for 5 months should be considered normal.

Anyway...sorry for rambling on so long.
Thanks for listening!
Tam

welcome!
if your gyno isn't a big help either, make an appointment with an endocrinologist. for years I got 'oh, sweetie, your cycle will be just fine' from gyno's, and the endocrinologist was the first willing to run a battery of tests...PCOS!
i wish you the best in your treatment, welcome to soulcysters

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

I'm hoping my new gyno will listen to me and if she doesn't I won't have a problem asking to be referred to an endocrinologist.

Do I have to be seen by and endocrinologist to be diagnosed with PCOS?

Hey Tam...I just signed up here today myself. I found out yesterday that I have PCOS. My ex-gyno did tests a few years back cuz she thought I had PCOS but after the intra-vaginal ultrasound showed only a few cysts she concluded that I didn't have it. Well as you can imagine I no longer see her since that was the extent of her testing. So my regular dr is the one who did the blood work and said that with all of my symptoms and the results from the lab he is certain I have PCOS. I guess I have had it all these years and it has just been getting worse. I am really overweight (most of the weight is in my stomache and I look like I am due anyday) The periods that I do have (anywhere from 1-5 a year) vary from hardly anything to what I am currently dealing with=10 days long and going strong. I have some extra facial fuzz (around my jawline and upper lip) I have insulin resistance (just started Metformin today) and my libido went out the door a long time ago..poor hubby! I HOPE that after taking this medicine and working on my diet/excercise things will get better. I wish you luck!
