Alright...these cramps are crippling me. What do you take for them?
I have never really had bad cramps. I dont know what to take. Im trying to stay away from ibubrofin (sp) cause I think Im developing and allergy to it (makes my eyes swell). I feel like I might die. What do you all take???

A heating pad or hot water bottle is a necessity! Also, try taking magnesium. I take one tablet (200 mg I think) every 2 hours when my cramps are bad. It really does help.
Also, I know it's the last thing you feel like doing, but gentle exercise really does help.
This is coming from someone who used to pass out monthly from the pain.
Take care and make your man treat you really well.

PS
Chocolate has magnesium in it, so it's even good for you now.
I think that by far Aleve has worked the best for me, its Naproxen Sodium. I even have gotten a prescription for Naproxen Sodium tablets, 550mg (equal to taking 2-1/2 Aleves) for when the cramps are REALLY bad. They say you are only supposed to take 3 Aleves in a day, but I've taken more, I've even taken up to 4 of the prescription pills in a day with absolutely no trouble. Best to take it with food tho, it can upset your stomach. Hope you feel better soon!
I have to agree with the heating pads. I have been using the ThermaCare menstrual pads and they are a Godsend! Some people think they get too hot but since my C-section in 98, I have no feeling there so it works for me. Also, much to my chagrin, I noticed if I walk/exercise the day of AF the cramps are much, much less painful.

Heating pads, a hot bath with lavender EO in it, lavender EO just rubbed on your tummy (the massage is part of it), and a cup or two of red raspberry leaf tea. I can't believe how well the tea worked.
I agree - Alleve. Before I went on the pill 10 years ago, I used to get really bad cramps and had a prescription for Naproxen. Since that prescription ran out, I began using Alleve and it works wonders...I couldn't live without it!
Platty
P.S. I also had such bad cramps that I would vomit and nearly pass out. 10-15 minutes after the Alleve, I am sleeping like a baby again.
i know this might sound strange but have you tried eating a banana or drinking a glass of milk. a nurse friend of mine told me that the potasium (sp?) helps. of course i would take midol or pamprin with it but this seems to lessen the pain for me.

I love Midol.... extra strength works great when the cramps are really bad. Since I started BCP's again I carry a box of Midol with me at all times. LOL It works great for swelling and headaches too. (Found out about the swelling when DH got in a fight and got his lip busted... worked wonders considering it was the night before our wedding. Loooooong story LOL)

It freaks me out that docs would give you Naproxen for menstrual pain, since that seems to me to be inviting Anemia in with a big huge happy wave!!! Of course it makes sense if your cramps are due to blood clotting when it shouldn't, because Naproxen and Aleve are both blood thinners. Blood thinners contribute to anemia though and I was always told not to take blood thinners as pain killers if you're bleeding... I know around my period I get powerful anemic (I have to take iron every day anyway and I have to double up around my period) so I'm scared stiff to make it worse with pain killers that are blood thinners.
Hate to say it but the best thing that works for me when I'm in major pain are narcotics like Percocet. I try not to take painkillers as a general rule but if I just can't stand it, the percocet always works.

I just started taking Micronor BCP (a mini pill, progestin only) to regulate my cycles, are you just starting to regulate your cycles with the Provera? While my body is trying to adjust, I tend to get cramps that nothing can help, and then right about the time I lose my mind from the pain, I would pass a clot. (I know, TMI). Do you notice that happening to you? I still haven't figured out what to use to stop the pain, but a heating pad seems to take the edge off the pain.
