I was taking Metformin 2000mg a day for about 2-3 months. My body never got used to it. I was still having diarrea every day and upset stomach. I just got so tired of it, it got to the point where I'd get a stomach ache just thinking about taking my medicine. I decreased my dosage (on my own) back down to 1500mg. I'll call my doc next week to let her know.
The problem though is, I was not ovulating even at 2000mg. So I know that going back down to 1500mg, I won't. I'm not ready to add Clomid to the mix yet. But I'd like to get off of the Metformin all together and maybe try something else. Is there a different medication to try besides Metformin/Glucophage? I know that's the standard treatment. I do not have blood sugar problems (only sometimes my blood sugar is too low). I am insulin resistant. Thanks.

Have you tried moderating your diet or switching to the extended release version?
For me, the side effects were a problem for over a year until I started eating to control my insulin. I highly reccommend the IR diet.
There are also other things such as chromium or avandia that you could talk to your Dr about.
Hope it helps!

What does moderating insulin mean? I am on the extended release version already. I started out on the regular version, but once we upped to 2000mg, I switched to extended release.

Insulin is a major hormone that really effects male hormones, especially in PCOS'ers. if you eat to control your insulin by keeping your sugars stable, it makes a HUGE difference. I normalized my hormones after YEARS of abnormal results with meds and diet. And the same insulin spikes that cause hormone fluctuations tend to cause side effects withe the drug, so if you can moderate your sugars.insulin via diet you will likely feel better on the drug. The side effects stopped overnight for me when I started doing that.
Hope i clarified.

I also could not stomach met, made me sick as a dog!
My doc put me on Avandia and it works for me. I have been getting the same results that I got with met, but without the terrible stomach problems.

I *think* I ovulate with Avandia! I do get the tell tale signs, however I have not tested for ovulation as we are not ttc as yet and I wouldn't say that I get the signs every month (that doesn't mean that I don't ovulate though!).
I did experience the same signs with met, so I guess it is a yes! If that makes any sense at all!
