Default Alternative Suggestions for Insomnia

Hi. I'm having a problem in staying asleep. I've been up since 2:00 a.m. and can't go back to sleep. This has been going on for quite some time now and I'm totally exhausted. I've tried meds, but they wear off and I end up wide-eyed at 4:30 a.m.

Do you have any herbal suggestions? I've tried Valerian, but can't get past the smell (gag reflex!), and I've tried Melatonin, which didn't help.

Hoping you can help. Thank you.

There are many relaxation/meditation CD's which may help. You could also try a sleep clinic. I was going to suggest valerian forte in pill form. Try holding your nose, then you cant smell/taste it. HTH"S

how much exercise do u do? i find doing exercise helps me to sleep - exercising at about 4pm is best but anytime of day, though not too close to bedtime, is fine. might be worth a try - even if u just go for a brisk walk i promise it will help u sleep better. even if u dont have the energy and are exhausted try exercisin.
also, make sure u give yourself an hour or so to wind down before bed, having a cammomile tea in the evening might help. maybe have a relaxing bath or some quiet time. make sure your room is not too warm or too cold, maybe use ear plugs. go to bed and get up the same time evryday, dont lie in even if u can.
hope that helps, sorry if u've already tried these things but thought i'd post them anyway.

my husband has the same problem...wakes up anywhere from 3-4 and is wide awake... his mind starts going.... and he can't stop thinking and worrying..he doesn't like to take any pills... but the one thing that works for him is to count backwards from 100... your mind will wander inevitably... but just bring it back to the number you're on as soon as you realize you aren't counting anymore... if you can't remember... go back to the last number you remember... 9 times out of ten.. you'll fall asleep before finishing...

good luck! hope you find what works for you!
