Hi. I don't know if you have found any answers on other message threads, but I thought i'd reply since I also can't take bcp's for several reasons. I have been on metformin for almost 2 years I believe and it has caused me to have cycles every 2 months, which is still not perfect but its better than none. i don't know if i'll ever have them monthly but it helps so far. it also helps with insulin resistance symptoms of fatigue. If you have insulin resistance which many pcos women do, metformin may help with the weight loss. it hasn't helped me lose weight though on metformin alone. i have had to change my eating dramatically to include almost no carbs, just healthy meats, vegetables, fruits, etc. I occasionally eat sugars and slight amounts of bread, but I have to avoid a lot of processed foods. That has helped me lose the most weight. So far 10 lbs on that kind of diet and exercise hasn't increased. I also make sure to eat in the morning and not late at night as that just goes to add on fat because you don't need much energy to sleep. I also eat less, I think because I take Chromium supplements also.
I have also recently started taking Aldactone (Spiro). So far I haven't noticed much. Maybe I need a higher dose, but I hear it takes months to really work, so? I am very hopeful that it will clear up my acne. That is my main concern also. I have extremely sensitive skin and proactiv has helped, but severely dries out my skin and i have tried almost everything else except retina/accutane. other than meds for acne, just finding the best skin care product i guess is the only other option, though with pcos it mainly is the testosterone that causes it for most people so that is why the spiro is helpful. it should also help decrease hair growth for you.
i tried the progesterone creams and i cannot take any hormones. i suffer terrible side effects, possibly blood clots so that didn't work for me. but i think with metformin and spiro, your symptoms should improve. hope this helps! |
