Question Alternatives to Met???

Ok...so, for some reason my stomach HATES Glucophage. At this time I can only stomach HALF of a 500 mg pill...so how can that be helping? Are there any alternatives to met? Is there anything out there that mimics the same benefits that one would get from Met without the awful side-effects. Please share!?!?!? I know that if I could take Met or something like it consistently at a higher dosage I would be so much better off. Thanks!

Love Megan

You can use.. Vanadyl Sulfate, Gymnema Sylvestre, or a product that has a combo of stuff called... Doctor's A-Z blood sugar health. Find it in the health food store. Research on the net first to see if this is for you.

The best supplements in my opinion are R+Alpha Lipoic Acid under the name Glucorell R...this is a natural glucose uptake enhancer, very effective. GLA ( gamma linolenic acid) taken in doses of 260 mg per 33 pounds of body weight is also very effective at increasing insulin sensitivity when combined with R+Lipoic acid. Last but not least, Chromium Picolinate has been recently studied for PCOS and showed a significant improvement in insulin sensitivity. They used the brand Chromax.

Try the IR Diet... your body won't release too much insulin if you don't need it to reduce high blood sugar in the first place.

The best alternative to met is D Chiro Inositol. Hands down.

There are no reported side effects and it is all natural. The problem is it's hard to get, I had to order mine from Korea.

I think it is more effective than met. On 2000 mg of met for 2 years I never had even one cycle. On the D Chiro I have one every 30 days on the dot.

If you do decide to try it, be sure and get D Chiro Inositol, no Myo Inositol. It's not the same thing.

If you are interested in more info g=regarding it, do a search at SC and read about it here on SC. Good luck!

I had trouble tolerating Met at first too. So my doctor told me to take it a certain way to make it more tolerable. She said to take one pill after breakfast, and one pill after dinner, never on an empty stomach. That helped a lot. At first I only took 500mg after breakfast, and then gradually added the second pill after dinner. Very gradually, I added another pill after breakfast and then another after dinner for a maximum of 2000mg/day. Well, unfortunately, Met did not work for me. It didnt reduce my total testosterone and did not get me ovulating. But at least I know I tried it. Since PCOS symptoms are so different for each person, it could work for you even though it didn't work for me. It's worth a try, and if it doesn't help you, then move on to another option. I am now attempting natural remedies since I have exhaused all of the drugs (Met, bcps and clomid did not work). Good luck

I second the DCI--I was on it for one month when it stopped 2 years of bleeding. 3rd month I got a bfp. I didnt' lose weight but it stopped me gaining.

I've been on the IR diet for almost 4 years, and that in itself did nothing.

I had been on metformin last year for 8 months, and it totally ruined things--made me sexless, fat, acne-ridden, and lost a lot of hair that never grew back. IMO it also made my spiro stop working forever too. I never O on it, and was so constipated I got hemorrhoids. I hate met!

You might also try Avandia or Actos instead of met, but they're prescription drugs again.

I bought my DCI in the USA www.chiralbalance.com

I guess expensive, but not compared to fertility drugs or brand-name met, or prescription acne cleansers which my insurance refused to pay anyway.

I had trouble with Glucaphage too. My doctor switched me to Glucaphage XR (extended release) which I took 1000mg in the am and 1000mg in the pm. The same stomach symptoms were there, but they only lasted about 2 weeks. On "regular" glucophage, my stomach issues NEVER went away even after 13 weeks.
