Island, some ideas to ask your dr. about:

-low thyroid
-low iron
-sleep apnea
-untreated allergies, or any allergy meds you take now

There are many possibilities beyond these, which is why you should ask the dr. Your physician can look at your medical history and piece the puzzle together. Good luck on your quest for rest!

Add "depression" to the list. Constant fatigue/sleepiness is often the only symptom of depression that people have, and it's very common in women with pcos due to elevated androgens.

I'm exhausted all the time, too. My doctor is going to do a sleep study for me to see if I have sleep apnea. There are clinical trials going on, and if I qualify, I'll be in one of them.... just seeing if a CPAP helps alleviate fatigue, therefore helps me lose weight, and alleviates PCOS symptoms. We'll see!

I have been constantly tired lately too. I feel like I'm ALWAYS sleeping or wanting to be asleep. I wish I knew what it was. I've already been tested for sleeping disorders. And I'm on anti-depressants. It's very frustrating!

Insulin resistance can also cause fatigue. If you notice that you are even more tired after you eat carbohydrates, then you might want to investigate IR.

I need to get checked out for this too. I wake up tired, yawn my way through work, and come home and want to do nothing more than crash on the couch for a nap. I know fatigue is one of those symptoms of just about anything, so here's hoping I don't actually have everything!

I'm constantly tired as well, even when I wake up in the morning. Its actually quite frustrating because all I want to do is crash and go to bed when I get home from work and I've lost interest in my usual activites because of my constant tiredness. I do have IR, but my tiredness has gotten worse! I would actually like to have a sleep study done because my DH has told me I tend to toss and turn a lot during the night. I think this might account for my tiredness...but I would love to have this checked out on.

I used to fall asleep in class and at work in the bathroom. I think it might be carbs. I dont know for sure. I went a few days with virtually no carbs (I was on an egg, beef, tomato and lettuce on a slice of whole wheat toast kick lol) and I seemed to do better but I got major headaches. Later I found out the roast beef was loaded in MSG, possibly the cause of the headaches.

Same here. I have no answers for that one. I am always tired. Coffee does not help! It is so frustrating to wake up exhausted and be late everywhere! No solutions, but I feel your pain!

Wow. I'm so sorry you ladies are going thru this and yet I am so relieved that I'm not the only one!! I am always tired. I hate it. I have found that exercise helps a little. But only a little. I've had all sorts of tests done but nothing has been found yet. I figure it's just part of the PCOS package. Or, as I tell my mother, another gift from her! hehe.
I have decided to accept that I need naps daily--sometimes more than one. Sometimes I try not to allow myself a nap as I know it won't help me to feel rested.

Once again I am relieved to know that someone else is sharing my experience.I just finished my 4th coffee in 3 hours and can barely keep my eyes open. For me the worst part of this whole thing was feeling so very alone and different.Since finding this forum I have discovered that no matter what ridiculous thing my body is doing someone else is experiencing it too.It helps a lot.Kinda like sharing the burden.

I'm so glad I can see others are experiencing this too. It's hard as my work colleagues think i'm lazy as I never want to do anything in the evenings and socially as i'm always so tired and constantly yawning at work. Then there's my mums attitude of 'you are young and should be full of energy'...she just doesnt understand!

This! Exactly, 100%, uncategorically this!!! I'm a young professional and I live in a bustling, energetic city where there are always things to do and see and places to go and experiences to be had. And most nights, I go home, walk my dog, make dinner, pack my lunch for in the morning, do a little housework, watch tv, walk my dog again, shower, and sleep. My friends don't understand that going bowling with them would mean for sure that I'd have a migraine the next day from fatigue. Or that I can't just "drink some coffee" and be okay.

And at work, people don't understand when we share about our evenings or weekends that I just physically am unable to go do things non stop. Or when I am encouraged to go volunteer or join an associate board for a charity. THey don't get it. The last time I had some activity planned on a work night, I had a migraine the next day and couldn't get out of bed.

It's getting progressively worse. Usually on the weekends my beau and I have fun-filled activities planned and we can usually only get through about 1/4 or 1/2 of them - and it's my fault. I feel so horrible.

I feel like my life is wasting away before my very eyes.

Hi ladies -

Make sure to get your Vitamin D levels checked. I had mine tested last year - it's a simple blood test - and was severely deficient. It's very common for women with PCOS to be low in Vitamin D. I was always tired too, but when my levels got back up into the normal range, I felt sooo much better. I've been really tired again and had my doctor test them last week. Turns out I'm low again, which is frustrating because I've been supplementing pretty religiously. I can definitely tell a difference when I'm low though.

It's a pretty easy fix if that's the problem.
