Default Am I a diabetic?

About 9 months ago i was diagnosed with having type 1 diabetes. I wasn't sick, but only found out as I have regular blood tests every month and my sugar levels went from being normal to 28 (nearly triple what you should be).

The doctors automatically assumed that i was type one straight away (possibly cos of my age? i'm 19), and put me on a hefty amount of insulin (114 units a day!). I told them at the time of my irregular periods, but for some strange reason my endocrinologist didn't seem worried.

A few months ago i was diagnosed with pcos and saw another endo. She assumed that i was type 2 as this is common, and when i explained my situation, she was astounded. I am now on 2000mg's of metformin a day (which gives me bowel motions which are unreal!), and she told me that it would probably give me some low blood sugar levels, so to decrease my insulin if necessary. I still have regular blood tests, and they always show that my levels are within the non-diabetic range.

I have since decreased my insulin by 24 units within a few weeks, and nothing has happened. I can eat and drink whatever i want - nothing happened before, and nothing happens now. My mother thinks that this has all been brought on by the acne drug Roaccutane, as symptoms of pcos started while i was taking that. So i'm hoping that if that was the reason behind my diabetes, that it will reverse.

I am hoping that in 8 weeks time, i won't be on any form of insulin at all

Have any of you exeperienced similar things?

From what I've read they haven't done any studies on Accutane causing diabetes, but I know it can affect the liver function and lipid profile in much the same way diabetes or hypothyroidism does. There have also been a few studies that show a connection between high fat levels and IR. It stands to reason there is a possibility that if you are already IR and take Accutane that it could make it worse.
