hI, I am very concerned about my 30 yo daughter . I watched a program on TV last night about strange diagnoses. When they did the story about PCOS (which I had never heard of) and told the symptoms...they might as well have been discribing my daughter. Though she does have one 5 YO daughter, she has had a miscarriage in the past and before she and her fiance broke up this Spring...she was having the irregular periods and wasn't using any birth control for quite some time. The weight gain, discolored skin, skin tags, hair growth, etc. Should I approach her with this info, just suggest she look at the info here on the internet? The health problem possibilities really concern me. Thank you for listening.

(((HUGS))) Welcome to SC! If I were you, I would discuss it with your daughter. This syndrome affects up to 10% of women, and if possible she should be checked. Just remember to be supportive and kind. It can be quite upsetting to get a diagnosis, and if she does indeed have PCOS, she will probably need you very much!
Stacie

Once you talk to her , you should have her check this site out. It has so much information on it. When I first joined, although I knew I had pcos, the description on the homepage described me to a T. Good Luck.

Welcome! I agree, before my diagnosis I knew something was not right with my body and to be honest I was relieved when I got the diagnosis. At least there was a reason. I would not hesitate to talk to her, you are trying to help her after all!
Like you, my mom was watching television and saw something on PCOS and it described all the symptoms like you saw. She wrote it down and when I came home (i was living with her at the time) she told me she wanted to talk to me about something she had seen on tv. I sat down and listened to her and you know what, I wish I would have done something about it when she first told me. I too have the skin discoloration, weight gain, excess hair growth, and no periods for months at a time.
I really think you should talk to your daughter about this. She will thank you, (if not now she will later.)
You know, everyday I thank God for my Mom and Mothers like you, who show concern for their children no matter how young or old they are.
I would def. discuss it with her. That's why your her mother. This is something that needs to be looked into and taken under control asap. If she blows you off like I probably would my mom I recommed printing some stuff off and just telling her to read it. It is very important. Eventually when that 5 year old grows up she may have problems too and all of you need to be prepared for things. You do what you think you need to do but talk with her anyway you can. Have a great day and welcome you and your daughter to the SC!!

We must have seen the exact same program. I was channel flipping Sunday night and ran across Mystery Diagnosis and decided to watch. Bells beagn rigging in my head instantly as they started describing PCOS. I think that I may have it... it is just too close to target. I always knew something was wrong but every time I go to the doctor, it gets blamed on my weight. Thanks alot! Noone ever considers weight as a symptom. Who knew that skin problems, female problems, and weight problems would be linked? I was looking at them all as independant issues. Now I've made an appointment with a doctor next month and I pray I don't get the run-around again. I had stopped going for the longest time out of frustration. I'm 30 now and I really want to get to the bottom of all of this!
My mother actually read an article in a Dr.'s office and thought I was a perfect example of it. When she called me, should couldn't remember the name and I made her go back to the Dr. to check it out!! It had plagued me for so many years and I was very appreciative of her finding this for me. Thank goodness there are so many caring Moms out there!!
