I have given up on the GYNO's around town. Next week I am going to my PCP and h is going to take over my care. (There's not much to take over since the stupid GYN haven't done anything) . Are any of you just in the care of your PCP ? Am I crazy to be doing this? My only other option is to change my PCP to another Doc in the next town and try another diffrent GYN. My PCOS is getting worse and I am so frusterated with these stupid Dr's.

i refuse to go back to my gyno! he was rude, charged mme $80 to read the 5yr old mags in his waiting room and tell me nothing that was of any relevance or help! so i'm now with a doc that knows his stuff is easy to talk to and can see things from my point of view!
if your not happy then change, theres nothing worse that going to see a gyno that you hate!
My only doc is my PCP (a family physician.) I've found I get better care re PCOS from her b/c she is able to assoc. & treat all the health factors, not just reproductive.

Me, too. Not that I have anything against my current Gyno, but my previous one was an idiot. I was referred to my PCP by my father's co-worker and she took over all care with reference to PCOS. I still go to the Gyno for a yearly. HTH!
My only concern would be how much your PCP actually knows about PCOS...
My experience has been that anyone on this forum probably knows more about PCOS than most doctors. How far are you going to get with them???
Im blessed to have an OBGYN who specialises in infertility so he is well experienced with PCOS.
I hope you find what you need.

Sweetie, I had so much trouble with my gyno(s) for so many years, and they I finally got referred to an INFERTILITY SPECIALIST. It's been a miracle, the care and professionalism, and knowledge by this specialist. Now, I did get referred due to having 2 miscarriages... but I think that you can request this (the referral), or insist upon it.
I don't think a PCP is the route to go. It may be like peddling backwards. I highly reccomend that you get a referral to an Infertility Specialist - even if you already have a child).
My thoughts are with you, I have been there and I know your total frustration.
I am being treated by my family physician. My gyn wanted to put me on birth control - ok..... ummmmm.... I am 44 years old, and I had my tubes tied in 1987, you want to put me on birth control for what?

That makes sense, put me on artifical hormones and increase chances of cancer
Hugs I found the perfect DR after a LONGGGGGGGGG search and then moved across the country and havent found another good one. I have done PCP and all of the rest. good luck

After seeing gyn's and endo's I found a family dr. and I have stuck with him! The gyn's just put me on BCP and told me I was too fat, and that was why I wasn't ovulating. With the BCP I would be OK while I was on it but when I came off to have the bleed, I would bleed like crazy and end up in the ER. The endo (I only ever got to see a NP) was only concerned with me developing diabetes sometime in the future. Neither of them ever mentioned PCOS. I was frustrated and so I made an appt. with a family dr. basically just because I needed my yearly physical. He was so kind to me and listened to me! He did my physical (first pap I'd had that didn't hurt) and diagnosed me with PCOS. He put me on met right away. After all those years of wondering what was wrong, I finally knew, and I could DO something about it. The met is still helping, and I'm still with my wonderful family dr.! I also feel that he looks more at how PCOS affects all of me, not just the reproductive parts! I know the PCP isn't for everyone with PCOS, but mine knows my PCOS/depression/diabetes etc. almost as well as I do! And for sentimental reasons, I love that he takes care of my baby too (who I don't think I would've had without the met!) Anyway that's just my opinion, but I don't think you are nuts at all. If your PCP is PCOS-friendly and will actually care about you, then I'd stick with him! I hope you find just the right dr. for you! Email/pm me if you want to talk!

It's going to totally depend upon the individual dr.
My PCP told me there is nothing wrong with me except I need to lose weight. The ENDO said he wouldn't diagnose me without elevated lipids. The GYN took one look at my labs and said I have PCOS. It totally depends upon the doctor... (They get paid the big bucks, I think they ALL need to get a clue!)

My only Dr is my pcp. She is the best. She diagnosed me and has been there every step of the way. We are really more friends then we are Dr and patient.

Keep positive thoughts because your mind is stronger at healing than any medication you can take. Believe in yourself to heal and you will start seeing a difference.
Gina,
I feel the same way about my dr., I kind of think of him as a friend too (although it's probably a little different since he's a guy ) But he has definitely helped me through a lot (being diagnosed with PCOS, depression, diabetes, etc.) and I think he listens to how it affects me personally more than many docs would. And it's nice because he takes care of our whole family too.
