I moved away from Ireland almost a year ago now. We're thinking of moving back, though!

I'm not in Ireland, but I have a lot of family that lives there, in the southwest. My parents go every year, and I can't wait for this years trip, since I am craving a Cadbury Mint Crisp, and they don't sell them here in the States.

My parents are friends with Ciaran Wynne, an awesome musician from Kildare, and I have a big crush on Niall Connelly, another musician. Ciaran is pretty gorgeous as well!

I would do anything to be sitting in Watergrasshill right about now!!!

Hi All,

I'm in Dublin too. 35yrs and TTC#1. Officially diagnosed 6 mths ago although always knew I had PCOS. Just the doctors always ignored me and just prescribed Dianette (pill) so only got diagnosed when was referred to a fertility clinic as we are TTC. Just started on Metformin 1000mg this month.

Michey23 - I am TTC so it was only when i went to Dr Mocanu at the HARI unit in Rotunda that i was diagnosed. But i would be interested to hear of any GP in Dublin who is proactive about PCOS if anyone else knows of one.

Hi Bumble

I've been seeing Dr Shield in Holles Street. Dont always get to see her tho even tho I book an app with her it can end up being another doctor! The last doctor who I seen a few weeks ago wasnt very helpful just kept sayin lose weight (it was ok for her she weighed about 5 stone!) I was put on Duphaston for a few months to help regulate my periods then go back in Aug to see how it goes from then. How far along are you with your treatment?

Michey23 that's v frustrating if you dont get to see the same doc each time. Is Duphaston a progesterone? It can be very very hard to lose weight with PCOS so it's a bit ridiculous for them to keep saying lose weight and then not give you anything to help.

I had one cycle on clomid 50mg and my cd21 bloods showed i didnt ov. So the next cycle they increased to clomid 100mg but again cd21 bloods showed i didn't ov. So they changed me to a drug called Nolvadex (Tamoxifen) which works similar to clomid and is apparently good for people who are resistant to clomid - I had one cycle on Nolvadex at 40mg but again didn't ov. So they have now put me on Metformin 1000mg for a month, then I'll need to take provera to bring on AF (as I dont get them on my own) and then take Metformin 1000mg along with Nolvadex 40mg in the second month. It's getting so confusing with what im taking! But hopefully it'll work. If it doesnt i have to go back to Dr. Mocanu and he'll "talk to us about the alternatives" which to me sounds like IVF but i guess we'll wait and see. HOpefully the Metformin along with Nolvadex will work.

It just frustrates me that I've been going to GPs since I was 17yrs asking them to address the PCOS issue and they always fobbed me off and just put me on the pill to "balance my hormones" and always told me that when the time came to try to a baby there'd be stuff (clomid) to help me. So they never put me on Metformin or anything to ease the pcos symptoms. And now here I am trying desperately for a baby and my body ignoring all the meds! Except the side effects...oh yes the drugs dont work but my god i get every side effect going! Menopause will be a doddle after all the hot flushes i've been having the last few months

Bumble u must be gettin very p**sed off trying all those tablets out! It must be really frustrating to see if u've ov or not. I think I've had pcos since I got my first period as they were always irregular but I think the pill just masked the symptoms. I was on every pill goin Microlite, Yasmin, Mercilon but Diannette was the worst made me put on loads of weight and didnt clear up my skin at all.I went off the pill bout 2 years ago didnt get a period for months then got them irregular like every 2 months then from September to Feb got them regular then they went irregular again!! When I went to the gynae and said I was ttc she kinda gave me a funny look and said sure ur only a baby yourself! I started goin on bout metformin and she said hold ur horses thats a long way off so prescribed Duphaston for 4 months. Yea its a progesterone. I take it from day 19 to day 26 then get a period. Im gonna see what happens. Ive just ordered some drugs on the net called insulite theyre all natural but Ive heard some good reports on them.

Michey did she do full blood work up for you? That should show where the problem is and she could maybe prescribe clomid for you to boost your ovulation. I have heard of people who regained their regular cycle after using progesterone for a number of months but for me I never had a regular cycle so needed a lot more than that.

My bloodwork came back with elevated LH but all other bloods (thyroid etc) were fine. He never tested me to see if I am insulin resistant but prescribed the metformin anyhow as it is supposed to make the fertility drugs like nolvadex / clomid work better.

I hope things work out for you soon and you get your regular cycle back. They shouldn't dismiss you about your age either...god they'd drive you mad. The likes of me (35yrs) goes to doc and it's all well if you were in your mid 20's it's when its the best time fertility wise blah blah and then you go in and are told you're just a baby. Very annoying for you....stand your ground and insist on them being proactive with your meds if they keep dragging it out. My sis was your age when she went to docs (she also has PCOS) and was told she was too young to have probs and to go away and come back in 3 yrs. She did what they said and it ended up taking her over 10yrs to have her little girl as they kept fobbing her off...she ended up having IVF to get pg and her little girl is 7 mths old now....but when she thinks back to how they dismissed her and made her waste all those years she gets very angry. Don't let them dismiss you, you have to trust that your doc is doing what is right for you and if you doubt them change to different docs ( you can have your file from Holles st follow you to new docs).
