Default Am I the only one who reacts badly to female hormones?

I was diagnosed with pcos 23 years ago and was started on the pill microgynon 30.. within 2 weeks I felt so ill, I feel sick, I get chest pain and the feeling like I am going to pass out. The docs took me off them and tried me on single doses of female hormones, again within 2 weeks I had the same problems and was taken off them. This has occured with any hormone that I have been given over the years whether a single hormone or a combination of hormones. The worst offender was Dianette (Diane 35), I got very ill on that one and had real bad chest pain with that one, and nearly ended up with my head in my dinner at a restaurant as I was on the brink of passing out. Last year I was given a progestogen tablet to see if it would stop abnormal bleeding which it did, but that made me so depressed, I cried at the drop of a hat and picked fights out of nothing so my docs took me off them. I have recently had 2 implants to thin my endometrium before having it removed. Again I got so depressed on the implants, thank god I only had to have 2, the worst thing with the implants was the mild menopause symptoms of having hot flashes, they are something else. Hopefully they are now out of my system.

My body is fine with it's higher male hormones and I function much better. I know I was born in the wrong body and I wonder if my reaction to the female hormones is because they shouldn't be there in the first place. Not that I am saying that those who have had problems are in the wrong body.. just wanted to make that clear... At my last Endo appt I said to the dr that I have had horrendous problems with female hormones over the years, and she said that it would be best to leave my system alone and if it remains stable with what I have then not to try and upset it. I have also found out that I have had a clot at somepoint in time and with that information they can take a running jump if they want to try and put me on any female hormones.

Just wondered if any of you also have had problems with taking BCPs and or single female hormone pills.

no u r not the only one - when i first started taking dianette - well for at least the first few months i felt awful: felt continuously sick, had random sharp stabbing pains, sore boobs, felt the urge to eat and eat, my skin broke out really badly round my chin and jawline...... - but my gyn told me to stick with it - eventually stopped feeling sick and my skin cleared up after 8months or so! but i put on over a stone in weight, and 10 months after starting the dianette i was diagnosed with severe depression and now looking back i can see that i was depressed within a few months of being on it - thought i was going crazy! i stopped it in july and the weight has just fallen off - my hormones are going crazy now tho- feel sick at the moment - but not as bad as when i was on dianette. am too scared to try anything else at the moment - so am trying hard to keep up my exercise and healthy eating - but am actually feeling ill(as in fluy) at the moment so its hard. its nice to know that someone else has had similar problems with bcp's - not that i'd wish problems on any1 but u know what i mean. sounds like u have a good endo tho! good luck

OMG you are SO not alone! I have been on Ortho Tri Cyclen, Yasmin, Alesse, Lo/Orval and Nuva Ring. All did the same to me ... PSYCHO ... The mood swings were horrendous within its self and add on acne and weight gain you have one pissy chick. I have not found one that evens me out. Right now My doc is pushin for me to hop back on one because I had endo (just had surgery) and he doesn't want it comin back - - So If you happen to find one let me know

I've been bleeding for almost 2 years because I HATE the pill. It makes me crazy, I mean really, dependent (I know that sounds weird but trust me on that one), suicidal, and fat. Oh, and it never did anythign fantastic for my acne either. I tried depo but that just catapulted things into 1000x worse.

I do okay *read=okay* on real, natural progesterone: either cream or the Prometrium pill. Not Provera. Tired, but I don't gain 50 pounds or want to murder strangers or kill myself. But, it doesn't stop AF from coming every 2 weeks either.

I was on letrozole, the estrogen inhibitor, for 5 days this past spring and I'll never forget how great, and how normal I felt. I really think too much estrogen is my problem, not necessarily too much testosterone. And either one can cause hirsutism, or hairloss. And I'm the only person I know who feels BETTER during AF (when estrogen is lowest).
