Default Am I really PCO? No IR - but on Met?

I'm so, so confused. Here are my sympotms:

Long cycles without medication (45-65 days)
Short lueteal phase (low progesterone)
One ovary had 14 follicles on cd2

That's it. Period.

I'm not overweight and I'm not IR. All of my bloodwork came back OK.

My RE thinks I have "mild" PCOS and wants to put me on Met -- but since I'm not IR, what's the deal?

I'm SO CONFUSED.

Thanks!

I didn't know there was such a thing as "Mild PCOS." I thought we either had it or not. I know there is a range of servity of symptoms though.

Twodogs,

Theres lots of research out there that supporst the usage of Met for all women with pcos, not just those that test IR in the standard tests (glucose tolerance, fasting).

Non-IR patients have been responding well to Metformin treatment in many cases. Resumption of normal ovulatory cycles and luteal phases have been reported in lots of cases. Check out this link

Theres lots of info, and also a forum here on the board specifically for questions about Met/Glucophage.

Hope this helps!

I've heard of severe PCOS.

Maybe the levels are on how many of the symptoms you show.

Take the Met and it will help regulate your menses.
