For those of you I haven't talked to yet, hi. I'm new. : )
I haven't had a period for 5 months, yet I still seem to have symptoms of PMS, which get more severe once a month (I haven't charted it exactly, just something I've noticed). Each month I feel the pinching in the area of my ovary (usually my right), my face becomes more oily and I break out with cystic acne, I get very teary (well, more than normal, heh), and my muscles ache, especially in my back, neck and hips.
Have any of you experienced these kinds of symptoms during amenorrhea?
Also, do you think that not having a period for a prolonged length of time causes PMS symptoms to kind of just constantly be present? Sometimes I feel like I'm just always in a moody, or constantly hopping from one nuissance of a physical symptom to the next.

Thoughts? Commiseration?
Yes, I also have PMS without the 'M' ha ha ha. I have found that natural progesterone cream helps with that. I would get very similar symptoms to what you discribe. And yes, I do feel that the longer you go without your period, the more consistently you have PMS symptoms.... I went about 2 years without a period, and I was moody and irritable all the time. I stopped getting cramps, because basically my ovaries had given up. But I'd get other symptoms all the time, basically daily. I began using herbs to balance my hormones, and like I said, NPC for the symptoms that I now only get monthly (instead of daily). BUT the monthly symptoms have eased, too, with the use of the herbs.
If you are interested, send me a pm and I'll let you know what I take.

I'm the same way. I used to be able to tell when AF was coming when she used to visit. Now, I can still tell when she should be visiting and doesn't. For me what happened was that I stopped ovulating altogether. That was when AF dissappeared. I'm curious about the NPC. What exactly does it do?

Most likely, you are going through the fsh phase and getting an LH surge, but the follicles aren't getting big enough or your ovaries are not letting them out, and so you don't get a period, because you don't ovulate. This is what happens to me. So, you're basically always in limbo and it makes you feel like crap! I'm sorry for that, its no fun. Make sure you find a way to bleed at least every three months or so to reduce your risk for cancer.

As you probably know, an increase in progesterone triggers ovulation. Then a drop triggers AF. But if you have too much estrogen or not enough progesterone, either ovulation isn't triggered, or the drop doesn't trigger AF. It sounds like (from your symptoms) that your body is trying to ovulate, but there's not enough progesterone to actually trigger it. The NPC is progesterone that has been created in a lab using a plant, either soy or wild yam, so your body can and will use it, but will only use what it needs. It is safer for the body than artificial progesterone because it can get rid of what it doesn't need. Does that help?

OH, I am so so glad that it is not just me! I had this for about three months running and I thought that I was imagning things. I would get the cramps, the tears, the need to kill a male if he came within two foot of me.
Welcome to the board. I am going through this myself, similarly, and I would have the pangs of PMS and would think I was on my way to getting my period, but no show. It wasn't until I recently went to the doctor, was put on Provera and then my period showed.
I didn't have my period for almost 10 months prior to that, either. If you have medical insurance you should get this checked out. They found cysts (in conjunction with the PCOS) and now I have to undergo some other tests.
Keep us posted, and good luck.
