Default I see Dr. Eldeiry and he is with the endocrine Group in Albany,NY....

He believes that just because your thyroid levels are in the "normal" range does not mean they are "normal" levels for you. If you have the symptoms of underactive thyroid and you don't feel well because of it then your levels are not right for you. He feels everyones normal levels are different. If you are at the low end of the range and your symptoms are not getting better then he will put you on meds to increase your levels. Your levels are not right until you feel better. If we all think about it we are all so different and our bodies all function so differently why can't our levels be different. I ALWAYS recomend going to an endo. no matter how far you have to travel or how much it costs GYN's don't specialise in this field so they can't help as much. For example I went to my GYN and he said that most women who can't conceive or do not get their periods are fat and lazy. (oh and he is also a fertility specialist). I then went to my general practioner and he said I don't know much about thyroid I will have to research it. So please no matter what it takes go to an Endo it was the best thing that happened to me. I walked into my endo's office told him my symptoms and he said you probably have pcos we will do bloodwork to confirm it and then treat you for it. GO TO AN ENDO! It's the best way to get help. Sorry this is so long but I wanted people to know about my different experiences with Dr.s

I have just gotten my TSH done and it is at 2.57, should I be concerned since it is close to 3.0. i go to the doc on mon. to discuss my labs 3 have come back abnormal and I rally don't want to worry about a 4th but I just want to be prepared, but they are still testing by the .35-5.5 range. I printed all the info and am going to take it with me, my doc is really good but usually dreads when I bring him something to read. But this is how I found out I had PCOS when I switched to my current doc from a doc that wouldn't listen, I came across some articles on PCOS and printed them and took them in to new doc, he didn't even have to examine me, he looked over my medical history and said this is exactly what you have and I want some blood work. Since then I have been treated for PCOS and IR...and haven't switched docs in 6 yrs. Anyway thank you for posting all this info, my sister in law has Hypothyroidism and I will send her this also.

that sad thing is most drs go by your numbers not how you feel which is garbage if they had to walk one day in my shoes they might get it.

I use to be a T4 only person(taking only levoxyl) as I have gotten older my needs have change and I needed a T3 also so I am now taking 60mg of Armour thyroid 2x daily and 37.5mcg of levoxyl and doing sooo much better we are also in the process of TTC our last child but I believe the reason we aren't conceiving is my weight so I am working on that.
All I know is if you dr isn't willing to listen to you and go over the info you have brought for him/her then I would find another Dr.

Wow this is such good information. I am due to have labs done this month, I am definitely going to have them look at this again. My brother has a thyroid problem, and I think it runs in our family. I was tested years ago and they said I was fine, but I have a lot of the symptoms on the checklist. I will have to check out those sites! Thanks!

Metformin 1500mg
Currently off meds (except Met) to try and lose weight. I am convinced it is what is holding me back.
