Unhappy amitriptyline and PCOS help

So I have read this board for 2 years and gotten a ton of great information but I have not seen this and I am scared. Today I went to the neurologist about my migraines and he prescribed amitriptyline. I did question him and told him that I was not familiar with this drug and PCOS. I explained that I was concerned with weight gain and would he reconsider another drug. He blew me off and I left with a prescription for amitriptyline. I have sinced scared my pants off with all my googling of amitriptyline. So here is my question... Do I take the drug see if I do gain the normal 25 pounds in 3 weeks OR do I wait until next month when I see my PCOS doctor and pointblank ask her for Topamax? At this point I am frozen over what to do and have caused myself a huge amount of anxiety.

Hey! I use amitriptyline (Elavil) for migraines, IBS, and internal cystitis. It is, my miracle drug! I did not gain a single pound on it (nor did my friend so is on it (she also takes Topamax with it)). Some people do gain weight, some stay the same, and some people actually lose weight! The drug can, like all SSRI, SNRI, Tri-cyclics, etc... cause weight gain in some people. What dose are you on? I would follow your doctor's orders and give Elavil a try. It really is a great drug and is used all the time by many people. If you start to gain weight and are unhappy then go off the drug. Anti-D's stimulate your seritonin which makes you hungrier and in some people that causes them to overeat. Are you exercising? Eating a good diet? If so, I'm sure you will be fine!

Thanks for the advice. I will fill my prescription on Monday and give it at least a 2 week try. I will let you know how it goes. Please keep your finger's crossed
