Can someone please recommend a doctor up in Anchorage, AK? My husband and I are moving up there, and it scares the beejeebees out of me that I might not be able to find a good RE.
Thanks in advance!
Deborah

Read about my TTC experiences in my About Me on my profile.
I currently live in bush AK and see a dr in Anchorage. Her name is Dr. Melanie McCleave (907)278-2070. She's a very good ob/gyn and has helped me w/my PCOS (though she's more a generalist and sometimes not super agressive in her treatement.) She did give me met when trying to conceive (we were successful) and was willing to try other mehtods of ttc if met didn't work. She listens very well and spends lots of time with you and is willing to look for alternatives.
I've also been told about another dr who is very aggressive in treating PCOS and in helping ttc. His name is Jan Whitfield at Alaska Women's Health Services (907)563-7228. I have not seen him personally (though may do so in Jan.) but have heard he is good and very affordable.
Hope this helps! Best of luck to you in your move.
(I see Dr. Mcleave in Dec and will try to remember to post to you about the appt. I'm going to talk w/her about treating my PCOS while not ttc and am hoping she will be willing to look into IR sensitizing med's, etc. instead of just letting me go along as I have)
I've lived in Alaska for a long time but I was just diagnosed with PCOS recently. I'm confused as to what direction to go. I don't really want to change gynecologists. I like the one I have even though she didn't diagnose me. I would rather have a family practice doctor because has so many other symptoms that don't fall in the range of a gynecologist. Or maybe see an endocrinologist who specializes in hormone disorders. I don't know.
Deborah - There are two hospitals in Anchorage and they both have websites - Providence and Alaska Regional. I haven't found an RE and to my knowledge I think there's only four endos in the yellow pages. There is one more hospital and thats the Alaska Native Medical Center, but I'm not sure if you can be treated there if you're not native. I've heard that Molly Southworth works there and she's an RE, but that all unconfirmed info.
Has anyone seen Dr. Jan Whitfield? I've had a good experience with my OB at Denali OBGYN but I would like someone to take a more agressive approach. I know my body and know it's going to be a difficult road in trying to conceive.
