Default Anemic

Well, my latest bloodwork from the RE is back. Since being on metformin, synthroid, and soy isoflavones I've been Oing regularly, which has improved my levels a lot. My LH/FSH ratio is now a perfect 1:1 , estradol, and progesterone all normal. In fact, and it wasn't even that off only low-normal, my hemoglobin was the only thing that may be cause for concern. The reason my doctor thinks it may be part of my problem is because even though I'm Oing regularly and timing things right, I'm still not pregant.

Can anemia be a cause for infertility? I don't want to take more iron supplements, because I'm getting some in my prenatal vitamin. What else can I do to bring my hemoglobin up a little bit.

Hi,

I'm anemic too, but I have no idea if it's tied to the PCOS though. When I was diagnosed anemic at age 11, just before all of the female stuff started happening. I must've had a dumb doctor because the only thing that he told me to do was increase my salt intake, which I did. I have since stopped (a long time ago-am 38 now) . Anyway You could try eating foods that are high in Iron. I know that spinach is high and I think Brocolli too. Good luck.

Some info for you concerning hypo and anemia, supplementing and food; timing is very important: http://www.thyroid-info.com/articles/iron.htm

http://www.thyroid-info.com/articles...tosis-iron.htm

I had a link that had a list of iron rich food. I'll see if I can find it and post it for you.

The only reference I've found about anemia and infertility was at this site: http://www.vitaminworld.com/scripts2...1337900019771?
Scroll and click on "Anemia (iron deficiency)". That has some good info; scroll down to the chart. You'll find a link to "Infertility (female)". Found on that page:

In preliminary research, even a subtle deficiency of iron has been tentatively linked to infertility. Women who are infertile should consult a doctor to rule out the possibility of iron deficiency.

When I had read the above, I posted to see if anyone knew anything about it and no one seemed to. I can only seem to find references about anemia with pregnancy itself, not infertility.

If I come across any info, I'll definitely post it. It's something that's been concerning me also, although I now know that my thyroid has been off too which probably contributed a lot to it.
