Unhappy another Dr's visit....still no help....

Saw my PCP today. She is alright, not as bad as most, will give me referals and most of the blood testing I 've requested. I'm going back tomorrow am for a serum ferritin, lactic acid and 2hr post prandial insulin, (requested by my NP, not the PCP

This was a visit this Dr schedules to check on meds, mine meds being the wellbutrin sr and celexa. Everytiime I go to a Dr other thank my NP, they tell me my symptoms are from depression. I'm not arguing that I'm depressed, I am, and I do need to be medicated at this point. But everyone keeps telling me my fatigue, brain fog, lethargy, weight gain, aches and pains are depression symptoms. I agree that they are, but, they are also PCOS and Hypothyroid symptoms, no? The MAJORITY of my depression comes from the fact that I know I don't feel right, but eveyone keeps telling me i'm depressed. I'm pretty positive depression is a symptom of both PCOS and hypo, so what about all the other symptoms???? This is what MAKES me DEPRESSED!!!!! After I come home from the DR, saying, I guess I'm wrong and it is depression? Then it is just inner conflict, knowing I'm right about myself, yet thinking 'on the other hand, all these dr's keep saying the same thing....'
I just want to scream!!!!

At least this PCP will refer me to any endo I want to go to, it's just lame to say , let's try upping your dose of wellbutrin, that may alleviate some of your symptoms....come back in 3 months and we'll see how you're doing.....I can probably guess how I'll be doing....alright, but still overweight, still tired still everything else I have right now, but three month from now....It's such an incredible waste of my time!!!!!

With my free T3 @ 2.5, and my free T4 @ .93, I think I'm right to believe my thyroid is not functioning properly???? RIGHT????? Or do you guys think I'm barking up the wrong tree???

I think you're absolutely correct. So many docs misdiagnose hypothyroidism as depression. Depression is a symptom of hypothyroidism, and studies have shown that T3 meds (such as Cytomel) can work wonders in reversing depression. You don't list the lab ranges for your tests, but if your free's aren't at least at the midrange you need to find a doc who will treat your thryoid problem appropriately.

Thanks Linda! Like I said, my PCP is "ok" She's not totally opposed to what I am saying, and she was very careful suggesting we up my wellbutrin dose, kind of like an "in the meantime" thing, or that's how I understood it to be.
I just get this deep feeling that other avenues need to be explored, and now I guess I'll have to find a doc that thinks along those lines.

One major problem in my area, southern NH, is that there is basically one doc in the area, who is considered a "top thyroid doc". Back before I saw the lousy repro endo, I had an appointment for sometime in may, which was like a 3 month wait at the time, so when I got a quicker appt with the RE, I cancelled my other appt. I had no idea the RE would be such an ass! So now, here I am back on the waiting game, and back to using my free time to research and find info to support what I'm saying. :::::::

Now, though, I think when I call dr's for appts, I'm just going to be upfront and ask what the Dr's beliefs are before I even book. We are switching health ins. plans, and we will be paying a lower monthly deductable, but I will pay more for dr visits and meds, etc. I am sick and tired of doing all the work and getting nothing out of it except" those are depression symptoms....blah blah blah..."

Thank you so much for responding!!! As you can imagine, and like I said before, I feel more "depressed" after I have a drs appt, and they tell me that's what I am!!!!!

I am going to try to be more positive...I know I can always turn here for support....thanks again
