Default Another freshly diagnosed!

Hello,

I was just diagnosed on Tuesday with PCOS. I went to an endocrinologist after having difficulties losing weight, hair loss/thinning, and lack of periods. The weight loss was the major tipping point, as I have been seeing a sports nutritionist for 5 months, and lost a grand total of 4 pounds. She pointed me to an Endo, since she had me down to 1400 calories without budging, and I run 6 days a week averaging 30-40 miles a week, swim 3 days, and bike 4, including 50-80 mile rides on Sundays (Triathlete... done them for a few years, training for Ironman this upcoming season).

Doc wants me up to 2000 mg of Metformin ER. I started yesterday with 1 with breakfast, 1 with dinner. Got the typical GI issues I've been reading about, along with an instantly suppressed appetite and always feel thirsty. I was having some bad stomach cramps earlier today, and ate a few small reeses pb cups... this helped immensly. Can someone explain to me a bit more how this is works? Should I be completely avoiding sugar... will it help with the pains, etc etc.

Thanks!

my endo told me to start at 500 a day for a week, then up it to 500 twice a day after a week. here is the link to the metformin section of sc for you
