Smile Another Newbie

Hey everyone!

I have been lurking on this site for a while now - everyone seems so friendly that I finally decided to go ahead and join LOL

I was dx with PCOS in August, 2000. Was put on Gluc x1500mg per day by my RE - it made me so sick that eventually I had to stop taking it. Took Avandia with no luck - it helped with the IR, but made me gain weight.

Went on Atkins and lost 100 pounds - have since gained back nearly 50 of that due to major stresses in my life. Am back on the Atkins now and losing is slow-go. RE says she wants me back under 200 at my appointment next year - at this rate it could take that long to get there LOL

Saw the RE two weeks ago and she put me on Gluc XR x1500mg per day - am hoping I don't have as much trouble with this as I did with the regular version. She also wants me to take cinnamon tablets, which I am having a bit of trouble finding. Any suggestions on where to look?

Looking forward to making new friends and getting/giving support. Thanks for listening.

Welcome!

All the best with the weight loss and trying Gluc XR! Sorry I can't help you with the cinnamon tablets (have never heard of them apart from on this forum, so have no idea where to find them). Maybe have a look (or post) in the alternative medications section?

Just wanted to welcome you...

Thank you all for the warm welcomes! Shelly I will be sure to check out the alt meds section for help on finding the cinnamon tabs - I've looked everywhere with no luck yet.

Hi! And welcome to sc!

WOW losing 100 pounds is AMAZING!! (even if you gained 50, you still lost 50!)

Try to look for cinnamon tablets in any health pharmacies/stores ~ just ask for it. You could also try using the powdered cinnamon (which is what i use). I sprinkle it on my oats in the morning and in my tea (makes the tea smell like pancakes )

I hope you will be v happy here ~ all the women are amazingly wonderful and supportive!

*See* you around!

Thanks again all.

LibChick, I've been getting very discouraged because I gained back some of the weight. Thanks for reminding me that even though I gained some, I still managed to keep some off.

Welcome!!
congrats on the weight loss, even though you gained it is still something you should be proud of and know that it's something that if you did it once you will be able to do it again . I am trying very hard myself I have lost so far 22lbs and it has been sooooo hard. But I know I need to do it. I have one question what is the cinnamon for?

Hiya Pebbles - my RE said the cinnamon would help regulate my insulin levels and may also help with the bad cravings for sugar I've been having. A couple people recommended buying the tabs at Wal-Mart. Hope this helps.

I had no idea cinnamon would help with the insulin, I have to go for more blood work and another insulin test is included so we'll see what they turn out to be
thanks

Hey girls,

I also had no idea cinnamon would help with insulin! How much did your doc recommend you to take?

Does anyone know why / how it helps?

I love cinnamon as a spice, maybe I should use it more!!
