    Default another not ttc thincyster

I am new to this site and I am so relieved that there is a place I can go to talk to people who are going through the same things i am. I went of BCP in Nov. had two normal periods and that was it - went three months without on - doc prescribed prometrium which worked but again its been two months and nothing. he wont renew my prescription for prometrium so now I am just suffering with major PMS symptoms for the past 6 weeks but no period.
in the meantime my endo put me on 500 mg of metformin which I have been taking for 5 weeks - obviously it hasnt worked yet?

my bloodwork keeps coming back 100% normal (insulin, hormones, thyroid -we've tested everything)

have any of you had similar experiences?

Just a question - why did you stop the BCP? Would you consider going back on them?

I'm also a "thinner"cyster, not ttc. I've had 2 kids, and am working on losing the baby fat. Only a little more to go. I do gain easily, but so long as I watch what I eat, I'm ok.

But I do have the labs issue...everything always comes back normal - I do have the cysts though, and the hair, and the acne. It was hard to get a dx, and I even had a nurse tell me I couldn't possibly have it, b/c I am thin. I've also been blown off by a few docs too!

Feel free to email me, too!

I'm with pooker here. Birth Control PIlls do help many of us, especially those who don't have IR or at least don't test positive for them. I too have been told by ER doctors there is no way I'm PCOS but my DR. just laughs when I tell her this later and says they don't get it! We do have PCOS and all have to personalize treatment for our own needs. BC pills have been a standard for me. They do a beautifull job with the syndrome we battle. There is no cure just treatments. Some women use both Met. and bc pills. Research and make your own decisions. Its very empowering!

    Default thanks for your reply

I stopped the BCP because I was getting migraines and also because I would like to get pregnant about 1 year from now. That's why this is an annoying time for me b/c I dont want to go back on BCP but I am not trying to get pregnant so basically I am just trying to find another way to get a normal period!!

I have an appt. with my endo and my obgyn next week -going to ask my endo to increase the meformin dosage and beg the obgyn for the prometrium to bring on my period -In the meantime I am so bloated and my boobs hurt!! LOL

thanks for listening to me complain!

I don't know what Prometrium is, but have you tried some form of progesterone to induce a period? That worked for me after I went off of BCP. If the only option your doctor is giving you for getting regular periods is BCP, I'd get a second opinion. BCP attempt to stop your ovulation, so they are probably the last thing you need when you're working towards TTC. If your doc knows that you are planning to TTC, he should understand that gong off the BCP is going to have to happen eventually, so you're going to have to find another way to solve the situation.

    Good luck

prometrium is a progesterone supplement. it is plant based rather than synthetic (like provera). my doctor preferred it over provera as it had less tetragenic effects listed in her book of medications & their side effects. not that provera has many. it may have just been one, now that i think about it. something to do with the hole for urine/etc. on a baby boy had the possibility of developing off center. anyway.

i had tried provera, it worked, then the doctor switched me to prometrium, it worked, then i moved countries, and the doctor said i could try a natural progesterone cream if i wanted, or he could prescribe something for me. i decided to try wild yam cream, which i got from a health store. that worked too. so, if you really wanted to, i'm sure something like that would work.

i remember when i was first put on met, my endo wanted me to wait 3 months before trying to induce af. i wound up needing to, but i can see the value of waiting, just in case the met works quicker than usual. my docs wanted me to have at least 6 afs a year, so only wanted me using progesterone every other month, if needed (with the exception of the first few months of met).

good luck with everything! planning a year ahead is a great idea! we started trying right after going of bcps, but, as luck would have it, it took a couple years anyway. it was sort of nice to be able to use those years to tweak our lifestyles a bit (like improving our diets and moving to another country).

anyway, good luck again, i hope everything goes according to plan.

my bloodwork came back normal 100% every time and so my endocrinologist told me that i didn't have PCOS and that my other doc was only scaring me by jumping to conclusions. but there are so many variables when it comes to diagnosis that bloodwork isn't the biggest factor. your bloodwork can be completely normal, but your other symptoms don't lie.
