So again, I know this is a PCOS board 'n all but does anyone know if Metformin works faster in women who don't have PCOS? I would assume it does only because I already have regular periods. However, I could be completely and utterly wrong.
I believe that sometimes it is possible to have a regular period and not be ovulating. (Please somebody correct me if I'm wrong!) I don' t know that Met would necessarily work any faster if you don't have PCOS, but I really don't know. Maybe someone else will have more info for you! Good luck!

Why would you be on met if you don't have PCOS? Unless you're a type II diabetic, I don't know why a non-PCOSer would be put on Met for fertility.

Maybe because I have insulin resistance - which is a symptom of PCOS, but no other symtoms of it. Maybe to help me ovulate, or kick start my ovulation, since I don't??
Heck - my husband is on met and he isn't diabetic either.
Huh -- I would be surprised if you aren't really PCOS. Have you had an u/s of your ovaries and/or bloodwork to see if you have high androgen levels? It's certainly possible to be IR without PCOS, but if you are IR and anovulatory that is more suspicious for PCOS. If you are IR and anovulatory and DON'T have PCOS for sure, you're probably still on about the same page as someone with PCOS when it comes to metformin. Keep in mind that many PCOS patients are very different, and in some women they get pg their first month on Met even without other meds (i.e. clomid), and some are on met for 2 years and never ovulate on their own. So I hope you have success quickly, but it usually takes about 3 months on your full dose of met to see a good effect if you're going to get one. GL!
