Default Anti-depressants and weight gain

Do any of you know which anti-depressants cause weight gain and which do not?

Have any of you heard about taking metformin along with psych drugs and it helping prevent weight gain.

I want to go on meds but I am afraid that weight gain will just bring me down and make life harder- since I am already depresssed about my weight.

I also need meds that are ok to take while BFing. Any mothers out there on anti-depresants.

Soon I'll be going to a psychiatrist, I want to learn as much as possible before I go.

Thanks

Hello!

I'm taking Lexapro and Met together. I found that I could lose weight on Lexapro, but when my doc tried me on Effexor I gained weight very rapidly. I didn't like Effexor at all, but some people say that it works well for them and they don't gain weight.

I am back on Lexapro (a higher dose than before) and have just started met, but haven't lost any of my Effexor weight yet (still early days). But last year taking the low dose Lexapro and no Met I did lose almost 40lbs.

Do talk to your doctor about whether you can take them while BFing though, I am single so I've not had to consider these factors yet.

Hope this helps!
Kath
