Default Antianxiety meds and weight gain.

Is there such a thing as an antianxiety med that does NOT cause weight gain? Or at least has it as a RARE side effect? If so, could you please let me in on some because I'm pretty sure I need to be put on one. But due to this whole PCOS issue, we all know the weight gain is not needed nor is it welcome! Thanks ladies!

It's a matter of trial and error with different pills so you might need to try a few to find the right one for you.
I have noticed some people gain on certain meds and some people lose. I have heard wellbutrin is good for not gaining weight. I have heard the same about lexapro as well. Effexor is the one I was on and it was supposed to be weight neutral. this was not the case for me but some people have said they have lost weight with it. moniter your weight closely with your doctor and let them know that you are concerned about weight gain

Thanks for the response, jc! Wellbutrin is a mood elevator and lexapro is an antidepressant so if they help with anxiety then its not by much. I've been on wellbutrin and didn't like it.

Does anyone else have any info for me please? Thanks again!

I take Xanax just as a PRN, an as needed medication. I don't usually take it daily, just when I need something to chill me out. Sometimes I'm able to go a couple weeks without needing any! Anyway, I've had no weight gain or anything with Xanax.

I'm currently on Xanax as well, but I'm on a regular schedule. .75mg/day and have been losing weight with it. I took Celexa for PMDD and was able to lose weight on that one. It's an anti-depressant, but really helped with irritability. Dr thought I needed something stronger because anxiety has been off the wall since my surgery.

I've been on Lexapro for about 8 months and haven't had any weight gain yet. Although Lexapro is an antidepressant it's used for anxiety disorders, and in my experience it's helped my anxiety immensely (I've got panic disorder).
I was worried about starting Lexapro as I'd heard horror stories about people ballooning on it. I decided to risk it and just make sure I weigh myself regularly. I decided that if I put on more than 4lbs I'd come off it!

I also take Valium in small doses most days and still no weight gain yet.
