Hey guys!
Does anyone know if it is normal for your thyroid antibodies to increase once you start taking Synthroid?
My antibodies were at just over 100 (normal is under 35) when my TSH was untreated and at 4.9.
Now that I've been on Synthroid for 4 weeks, my TSH is down to 1.3 (and I feel so fabulous!) but my antibodies are up to 557. Does this usually happen?
Thanks thyroid gurus!

Antibodies kind of do what they want. They can fluctuate due to illness or injury, girlie hormone fluctuations, or anything like that. It isn't just dependant on the medication you're taking unfortunately.
It's good you're feeling better! That's what matters.

That is odd that it is flucuating that much...my antibodies were undectable when I was on my Synthroid, and off they would get up to 8 or 9. For a person who had a thyroidectomy and 2 ablations, it's pretty high. I shouldn't have had any...but I had thyroid cance living in other parts of my body.
It would get it checked out, just for peace of mind. High levels of thyroid antibodies could be a sign of Hashimoto's.
What did your doctor say?

Thanks guys.
I do have Hashi's, I was just wondering why the antibodies would increase with treatment.
I'm seeing both my Endo and RE next week so I'll be sure to ask.
Thanks again!
