I probably could have benefitted from some, though I didn't even feel up to going to see anyone!!

I didn't but no doubt they would have helped! I didn't sleep much after my first loss. I would fall asleep at around 2-3 am only to wake up at 4 in tears. It was horrible. A month later I was in a car accident and the ER doctor felt really bad for me I think, and he did prescribe valium but only about 5 pills. He told me to use them as a "muscle relaxant". When I went to my primary care Dr. for a follow up she freaked about that.

Tricia, I really hope this help is just what you need to get to a better place. You will still grieve. No one can make that go away, and it is hard work. We can just find ways of making it bearable and keeping a foot on solid ground. You will be in my thoughts!

I was given an anti-depressant after my first loss, I refused them for my second. They didn't do much for me. Talking helped alot more. I suggest finding a girlfriend and having a cup of tea, and a good cry.
I am on them for several reasons and one being my back to back losses.
They help somewhat, I just hate the side effects. I am on celexa and atarax and trazadone and also supposed to take welbutrin (I stopped it as I was very aggressive/angry easily).
Overall when I am on them I am nice and mellow. I still have my meltdowns, but no meds will take that away.

yeah I stoped the welbutrin felt like I was on a diet pill it was horrible, had to go to the hospital because of it it drove me nuts I had chest pains and back pains couldn't sleep and they ruled out heart attack but gave me a prescription of nitro in case it happens again, so they recommended sanex and gave me one it helped alot....
I was on them before I fell pregnant, I was nearly 7 weeks before I realised that I was pg. I immediately stopped taking it (Lexapro which is an SSRI). I haven't been back on them since. Its hard but I want to feel everything, not numb it.
I started on Zoloft, I took it for 3 weeks and stopped. The MD also gave me xanax and ambien. I still take the ambien and xanax a few times a week. I also started to see a therapist a few days after I had methotrexate for my ectopic pregnancy. I thought I was going to go crazy. She has worked wonders for me. It is now almost 3 months later and I feel so much better physically and emotionally. I am still nervous about starting to concieve again, but I am not ready to give up my dream of having a baby! Good luck to everyone!
My doctors would always say...I could give you something BUT I wont ffttt to them. I wish I had but then there answer was to Feel the pain , I'm sure they havent felt pain like that before.

I went on Lexapro around the 1 year anniversary of losing my baby. It helped a great deal, but it made me feel very drowsy if I took it during the day. So I made sure to take them before bedtime.
I was crying all the time and it really helped to mellow me out. I could remember what happened but the uncontrollable tears sorta went away.
I think you should talk to your doc about taking one of those types of drugs (lexapro, zoloft) and maybe steer away from the valiums and zanax type of drugs. Just my opinion.

I just wanted to say be careful with the ambien. I did ok with the regular kind, but I've not done so well with the CR version. I've known people to do some things, even go out and drive their car, and not realize what they're doing. Don't even remember it the next morning. I went on an online shopping spree just last week after taking it. Not trying to scare you. It really can help. Just make sure you go to bed right after you take it.
