Default antidepressants/anxiety/gluc XR

Hi All -

I was diagnosed with PCOS about a month ago. I have been taking glucophage XR for 2 weeks now (I took regular, generic metformin for one week - 500 mg.) I switched to XR because it is easier to take. I am supposed to increase it to 1000 mg tonight and eventually go up to 1500 mg.

I have also been taking imiprimine 50 mg. (a tricyclic antidepressant) for about 5 years now for anxiety (and migraines). I have felt great on the imiprimine with occasional bouts of anxiety here and there. For the past two days I have had some anxiety and sort of the doldrums. I'm wondering if it could be PMS? Last month I started AF around January 3, but I was taking my provera (10 mg.) I decided not to take the provers this month just to see how things go. I feel like AF could be coming, so maybe that's why I have the anxiety and doldrums?

Could it be that my hormones are just really out of whack right now? I'm worried that the glucophage XR is causing the imiprimine to not work. Or could the gluc be causing anxiety?

It sounds silly I know, but I tend to worry about these things!

Has anyone else has a similar experience? Thanks in advance!

I wish i had some answers for you but I haven't had that problem..... the met i am on hasn't caused my anxiety to be any worse or anything...... i am on zoloft and it seems to be still working.......... i wish i could offer more help....... you may want to check in the Met forum and see if they could help......... also talk to your docs about it and see if they have any info that can help..

Good luck............

Post This may be a shot in the dark!!

I just wondered if perhaps it may be in relation to your blood sugar levels.

I was out about 2 weeks ago, I had gone to the movies with my fiance. I didn't eat anything during the day and I took my meds. I ate popcorn at the movie theatre and we had icecream about 20 mins later. Then about 20 mins after the icecream, my stomach went into a cramp, I got lightheaded, my heart pounded and I went all clammy. I felt ill. I know now that I overloaded on Carbs and then my sugar level dropped and knocked me on my ass. Low blood sugar levels can also make you cry at the drop of a hat!

When you are taking meds, you have to keep that protein/carb thing balanced.

I don't know if this helps or not.

Let us know!

Thank you both very much!

I just got off the phone with one of the nurses at my doctor's office and she is going to have the doctor call me back. She thought maybe the XR is causing the problem and advised that I take the regular metformin I was initially given, but I'll know more once the doctor calls me back.

I'm also wondering if the thyroid medicine (levoxyl) is causing the problem because I've read that metformin can have some sort of interaction with thyroid medicine.

I'll keep you posted!
Thanks again!!
