Default anxiety attacks

i have been having anxiety attacks EVERY NIGHT. they are now coming on during the day as well.

last week i actually did quite well...i took a xanax about an hour before i went to bed...and was able to make it through the night.

i usually wake up during the night and have one.

(sorry if i'm jumping around here)

i have noticed though, the nights i take my metformin, i'm okay....when i DON'T take my met...i have one.

anyone else experience this? this is the only common thread i can find b/w having them and not having them.

b/c of thanksgiving and the consumption of alcohol, i hadn't taken met for a couple days, and the anxiety attacks were back!

lesson learned, always take my met.

just looking to see if there are any cysters with similar situations, as i am wondering if the insulin levels have something to do with it.

Hi, Im sorry youre suffering with this, I know all too well how this feels and to have anxiety in general just S***s!!
I can sometimes go all day with them, mostly they come on at night.I have no clue why!

Are you nervous when u dont take your met? Do u feel like u r stressing over not taking it? Because if so by you stressing over not taking it it could cause the attacks to come on.

A really good helpful website is www.anxietytribe.com, they have helped me thru mine many times!
I havent taken a xanax since Aug. due to ttc, and I have gotten thru my attacks luckily.

Also if you dont wanna take a xanax and wanna take the edge off, have a glass of wine it has the same effects as a xanax does and it calms u down quickly!

I wish I had better advice! Im still learning how to cope with it and handle it!

For me the connection with met is not my problem , I have no clue what causes mine!

Best of luck and I hope this helped a bit!

((((HUGS)))))

I have the same issue when I don't take my met. In fact, I wasn't on it for almost a month and for the last 2 weeks (of the month I was off my met) I was having them daily. I didn't put two and two together until right before I got my met refilled. Since being back on it I haven't had any. I get anxious but don't have the attacks I did have.

I have pondered a similar relationship between IR and anxiety, wiggles. But, I also think elevated androgens can be a contributing factor. I suffered daily anxiety attacks for over a year, during which my PCOS/hyperandrogen symptoms seemed completely out-of-control and my fasting glucose level remained high, despite taking 2000 mg Fortamet. Only since starting bcp in August have my anxiety attacks all but disappeared; and, coincidentally, my fasting glucose level has significantly decreased to the mid-normal range, too.

I see you are taking 1500 mg metformin ER. I've read several posts in the "metformin" thread by women who say they noticed a difference in their moods when they increased their dose. Has your doctor ever mentioned boosting you up to 2000 mg?

I don't take Met but have heard that it can help depression and anxiety. So try to take it regularly. Also, alcohol can increase anxiety for days as it is a depressant of sorts so try to stay away from it. Also the anxietytribe site is a wonderful site. I belong to it. Anyone that wants to add me there is more than welcome. My name on there is afwifek as well.

I've suffered with anxiety since I was 16 (I'm 27 now). I've noticed the opposite, that the anxiety has increased since starting the metformin. It only happens at night as well, although sometimes during the day. It's the worst feeling. I think it happens mostly at night because the night is the unknown. That's my feeling anyway.

Also, if I drink heavily, I have severe anxiety the next day. It's all part of the hangover for me. My dad had the same problem.

ok... Im really curious... pending on dosages because no one mentioned what they were on when they were missing the met... could it be withdrawl? could that maybe trigger it? Im sorta worried, I have anxiety anyways so if met makes it worse Im SOL lol, a few quick ideas to help with anxiety I dont know if anyones tried it or not but cool/cold showers (like daily for a few days) help as does lavender oil, if u use 1 or 2 drops on some tissue and sort of hold it under ur nose or wave it around and just close ur eyes and try and think calming things... I find both those things help me personally hopefuly can help someone else too

I know when I'm having an anxiety attack I have to have air in my face. I'll fan myself or I turn on the air conditioning. People at work laugh at me because I always have my fan on at work. Everyone is freezing and I'm the only one w/a fan on. I have been like this since i was 12.
