Default Anxiety ever make you think you're dying?

I have been having chest pains off and on for quite awhile now, my doctor says they are anxiety related. So, when I have them I usually take a xanax. Today the pains were bad and radiated to my back. I was in tears. I took a Xanax and NOTHING. Eventually the pain went away. I spoke to the doctor that my mother works for and he said it sounded like muscle strain and told me to take Motrin. DH is bringing some home.

Anyway, sometimes I convince myself that something horrible must be wrong. Today I was having a heart attack. Does anyone else go through this?

I'm just so disappointed in myself right now and the xanax is making me a little groggy and lightheaded. I hope I made sense.

Thanks evryone.

Heather

I havn't had that problem but with my panic attacks brought on my anxiety I feel like I am going to do die. They can be so embarrasing, long and sometimes it hurts.

*hugs*

I suffer from really bad anxiety and yes, I feel like I'm dying allllll the time! lol.

In regards to your chest pain, do you sometimes experience pain in the right side of your abdomen? Because you could perhaps be suffering from Gallstone attacks. It often mimics the symptoms of a heart attack and radiates to the back. Just a thought. =)

Red face Anxiety

Oh Im so sorry to hear about your anxiety. I have a Panic Disorder so I know all about the pain, and the horrible feeling of "dieing, or going crazy". It sounds to me like your having a panic attack not just anxiety....but Im NOT a Dr. My symptoms are pretty typical of panic attacks, it usually starts with me feeling like I cant sit still, then my chest starts to hurt, and I feel like I cant breath. It feel like I want to pull my skin off and crawl under a rock, thats how uncomfortable and awful I feel. I usually have this uncontroable fear that Im dieing, my heart is pounding so fast, and so hard it feels like its going to explode. This usually last from begining to end about 45 mintues until I feel drained. I too have a PRN to take thats REALLY REALLY helps. I take Klonopin .5mg. So there are some symptoms to compare yours too. Its a horrible feeling I know too well and wish you the best of luck if you have any more questions I would be glad to help you.

I know it sounds silly but the best thing that helped me is breathing and positive self image thoughts. When the doctor told me I thought she was crazy, but it works. Sometimes I still get myself pretty worked up. But if i can catch it before my panic gets full blown then I am ok.

Thank you everyone, glad to know I am not alone.

Weetzie13- I am all too familiar with gallstone attacks, it was actually a severe attack which triggered this whole ongoing anxiety/panic issue. I no longer have a gallbladder however. Thank you for the suggestion.

My panic attacks generally start with some chest pain, then rapid breathing, then cold sweats, shaking, then I feel like I am dying. Yesterday was different. I had this weight on my chest and then my back hurt so violently that I was in tears. I was dizzy and very sick to my stomach. I took the motrin like the doctor told me to, he told me to double the dosage. The pain went entirely away within half an hour. Between the Motrin and the Xanax, I was in bed at 8:30. I usually don't go to bed until midnight and I am a HORRIBLE sleeper! I woke up this morning with DD at 9:30 lol. I feel better today.

Thanks everyone.

Heather

Yup I often feel like I am having a heart attack ... I get stabbingn pains in my left side and often it radiates down to my left hand .. I had all the tests and because I suffered panic attacks I was told its anxiety related. .... often the pain starts when I am stressed so nowadays I ignore it although I bet one day it IS a heart attack and I carry on as normal.

I hate anxiety I have generalised Its almost constant

PrincessErin hit the nail right in the spot when she described the panic attacks. I feel like that. I just make it worse by thinking all kinds of crazy thoughts.
I've ahd the same bottle of xanex since last september, and still have 10 left. I hate the way it makes me feel. At first the breathing didn't help because I didn't have the patience to take those slow deep breaths. But it's a mind thing. I made myself do it, and it really works.

Agree there I used to suffer well badly from panic attacks that I nearly stopped working .. I had councelling and then was taught to do deep relaxation techinches to learn how to breath from the diaphram rather than shallow breath .. I spent twenty mins a day on this and it soon became habit when I was beingining to panic to deep breath and relax ... was hard at first but it sure helps ......

I was considering Yoga or Meditation (and I am not really that sort of person) but they are supposed to help

I thought I was having a heart attack right before I got diagnosed. My doctor did some test and said my heart was fine. I've also had testing done on my gallbladder about a year or so ago and it was fine too. I did'nt realize that anxiety and depression could give you pain! This is the first I've heard of it but it makes sense because ever since I've been on meds for my depression and anxiety I haven't had that pain anymore! I learn something new every day on here!

I so know where you all are coming from. I have GAD and it is constant. It's actually kick my butt right now. I am driving back home (4 hour drive) today. I haven't drove more than 5 mins from my home for almost 2 years. My hubby is driving behind me but still I am just wanting to crawl back in bed right now. I get the chest pains and all. My dad died of a heart attack at age 49 so the chest pains are just a killer for me. Scares the far out of me. I am on lexapro for them. I agree positive self talk and images do work. I just have to make myself go there. I will make it today it just might take me 6 hours to get there

Hugs!

Hello -
This thread has really hit home here with me! I have "heart attacks" 2-3 times a week. I am convinced they are. My dh, is not which occassionally makes me get upset with him. Because I feel like he is not listening to my body's warning signs. Its a vicious cycle.

I've gone to my doctor once because of it, and she said No- you're healthy. It could be caused by your carpal tunnel syndrome. She said sometimes that can radiate up your arm into your chest muscles. But, because I have severe anxiety, I have a hard time believing her. I dont understand how your wrists being damaged can cause you to have chest pains.

I'm not a doctor or a nurse - nor do I play one on TV (or on the internet)- But what has helped me is, when I get these chest pains I take 1 aspirin. They say that if you're having a heart attack, and take an aspririn before the EMS gets there, usually you're doing better by the time they get you to the hospital. So, when I take an aspirin, it all goes away within an hour. Its all mental with me. More I think about it, that probably makes me worse. Because if the aspirin takes away the pain, then it must be heart related? That, or its mental. I'm a basket case over this topic.

Well, I just wanted to let you know you're not alone - I do it too! Makes me feel better I'm not alone!

Take Care,
