Default anxiety - is prozac good?

Hi -

I am 3 months pregnant (yay!!) and was doing great until this past week when my anxiety disorder reared its ugly head again (I was doing very well for a while without any medication).

Anyway, my OB gave me Zoloft (25 mg) and I took my first one last night and have been an anxious, jittery, nervous wreck since about 4 hours after taking that first dose. I called my OB and pharmacist who both said that the increased anxiety could be a likely side effect of the Zoloft - I must be extra sensitive to it (my twin sister experienced the same thing on 50 mg of it). Needless to say, I'm not taking the Zoloft.

Anyway, the doctor mentioned Prozac (10 mg) as an alternative, but I am terrified of having the same reaction. The pharmacist said that she has known Prozac to be a much more calming, sedating drug than Zoloft.

Has anyone had any experience, success, etc. on the Prozac for anxiety? Anyone have a reaction to the Zoloft like I did?

I was having great success with 50 mg of imiprimine for a few years, but went off it last year because I wanted to try to get pregnant. It is definitely a drug not to take during pregnancy (Category D) so I can't take that.

Thanks so much in advance for your feedback!
Sara : )

Congrats on your pregnancy!! I had a really bad reaction to Lexapro and now am on Zoloft but I cant take it without the klonopin as of right now. I think its helping but not a ton. I wish I could be more help. I am scared of trying another one and getting a bad reaction like you did with zoloft and like i did with lexapro. My mom got bad side reactions to all of them

Hi There!
I have tried Paxil, Zoloft and Lexapro (boy, I sound like a loony! LOL.) I hated them all.

I am now on Celexa (Citalopram is the generic) and I LOVE IT! No increased anxiety, no weight gain, no sexual side effects, no emotional numbing...and NO Panic! Yeah!

My doctor told me that she has had great success with many women with Celexa, so I decided to try it. Boy, I am soooo glad I did. I get more relief and less side effects with 10mg of Celexa than I ever did on 75mg of other meds.

I think with SSRI's, everyone reacts differently, so you've got to keep trying them all until you find one that works.

Congrats on your pregnancy, and I hope you find something that works for you.

I take Prozac 20mg for depression, anxiety and panic disorder and it has helped me tremendously. It does take a few weeks to kick in though. I hope you find something that helps you soon. I know how miserable it is.
