Unhappy Any Acne Ideas?

I am so fed up with these blinking spots! Also, as am really old now (32) they're leaving red marks that won't go away! What can I do? Has anyone tried anything for spots or scars or both that's worked? All I can find on the site are lots of amazing American products that I've never heard of and probably couldn't get. Please help!

Mollz if it is hormonal acne it might be a good idea to go on Dianette for a couple of months. It worked for me. Good luck.

Hi Mollz!!

Sorry you are having so much trouble with Acne right now. I know how you feel as I went off all of my PCOS meds and my Acne is even worse than it ever has been before.

I am trying to drink 3 litres of water a day and have done so every day since last Thursday. I have really noticed a change in my skin - it is less greasy and my blackheads seem to have diminished.

Also, I am not sure if you have Neutrogena products there but I have been using Neutrogena's acne wash and found that to be gentle -- drying up a lot of my spots without irritating my skin.

Good luck and let us know how you're making out!!!

Love,
Kelley (dreamy28 but really 30)

I'm so fed up of still getting spots as well - im using anti-wrinkle cream on my eyes, and zit cream on my chin! wheres the logic in that?!

mordillo - I have also found Dianette works really well. I came off it for a few months when I was having some tests done and my skin flared up really bad and was really sore but now after 4 months back on it im almost spot free apart from the odd one.

I drink loads of water too, and also use a bit of fake tan on my face every other day which helps to blend in some of the scars i have.

i also change my main pillowcase every other day just so im not continually putting my face on it when it may be gathering grease etc etc

i use a lot of the clean&clear products which are relatively inexpensive and they do 'sensitive' products so they dont make my skin sore like some of the acne related brands have done in the past.

i also found that since using a mosituriser my skin has been better! i know it sounds silly, but the doc agreed with me that it is because if your skin is dry it produces more sebum (oily stuf) and therefore gets more rgeasy whereas if you use a moisturiser your skin stops producing so much sebum which can lead to spots, blocked pores etc. I use aqueous cream (not sure on spelling!) but its a water based cream that is often used by people with excema etc so its really gentle and doesnt contain anything your skin can react to and it makes my skin softer but not greasy. its also very cheap - only a couple of kwid for a tube from boots/superdrug etc. you sometimes have to ask for it behind the counter from the pharmacist though.

hope some of this helps! and remember (like my mum has been telling me for years) you always notice the spots on yourself more than anyone else will be noticing them on you :o)

I also use Netrogena products and they work great! I am also on Diane 35, which helps some, but what really does the trick for me is using Dalacyn T Topical Solution; you have to get a perscription through your doctor, but it is great! I just use it once @ night before bed (after I wash my face). It's a solution that you rub all over your face, can really dry it out @ first; but you'll notice improved skin in about a week. (Well for me that was all). I also try to drink lots of water and try to stay away from pop etc......

thanks all. I do use the neutrogena make up which is brill, so I'll try some of the other stuff. Am also going to do the water and pillow things!

Fake tan is great stuff, but used on my face always gives me even more spots. Is there a good brand out there for the face?

i find that the Clinique 3-step face cleansing & mosturising products are good. They don't help my spots as such but they help the rest of my skin to be looking good and i do believe that using it has helped reduce the number of spots alot - now i only get hormonal flare-ups as opposed to having spots all the time. And coz my skin is looking better it's easier to cover up the spots and scars with make-up.

Clinique also does a good range specifically for spots and i found that their overnight spot treatment was very good.

Although the products are quite pricey - they last for ages so it doesn't work out much more really.

I hope you find something that works for you as i know how miserable it can be to be getting spots

Hi mollz,
i suffered with really bad acne all thru my teens, which i now know was down to my pcos but i went on roaccutane n it seemed to clear it up - tho i wouldn't reccommend it. however, my skin did get bad again as i put on weight in my first yr at uni n then when i was finally diagnosed with pcos last summer and went onto the dianette it was really bad especially round my chin and jaw line area - obviously hormonal! so my gynaecologist said to use CIDAL SOAP-(its an antibacterial soap that costs about £1.09 from Boots or any good pharmacy. i then follow it with a rose floral water toner (for senstive skin types from neil's yard remedies) and Simple moisturiser and at night i use Dermalogica's medicated clearing gel which contains salicyclic acid (sorry if i havent spelt it right!) which is working at the moment! also the dermalogica oil control lotion is good for wearing under make up in the day. also i found that a seaweed mask every other day until ur skin settles, then once or twice a week has kept my skin relatively clear (i did go on dianette which initially made my skin awful, but did then clear it up - but got very depressed on it, so have now been off it nearly 2months - i'm still using the soap and seaweed mask and my skin is still relatively ok!! so i'm keeping my fingers crossed!) if you want to look at the website for seweed its www.aalgo.com - maybe its worth a try if ur still havin problems!
good luck xxxx

Default Hi

I have severe acne I was put on Roacatane think thats how its spelt.. in 2001However u can't take if u want 2 get pregnant anyway after 3 weeks my skin was completely clear it was fantastic and I was really happy as I was getting married that year..However I reacted badly with my lipids and cholesterol rising to dangerous levels so I wasn't allowed to take it after the first blood test 6 wks even after that short period my acne has improved and I was cyst free for nearly a year. I would have loved to have completed the 3 month course as many people find they don't really get spots again.

Good luck

Becs
