Default Any advice for Ovidrel?

I am taking my first Ovidrel injection on Wednesday evening?
Does anyone else know what side effects to expect? Is it nausea, tiredness, or any vomiting? I'm just sooo scared about the shot. I just want to know what to expect.
I'm hoping that I can expect ovulation....Hee My doctor was very brief in discussing it with us. They didn't warn me about hyperstimulation or what the risk of multiples are.
Please give me any advice,
Mellie

Ovidrel is pretty easy...not a lot of side effects at all, really. I've taken it twice and, both times, I was a little weepy the next day but that's really all. It WILL cause ovulation in about 36 hours, so definitely expect that! Ovidrel doesn't stimulate your follicles to grow like Clomid or injectibles, so there's no worry for hyperstimulation or multiples (well, unless you have more than one follicle that's mature...). It's a tiny little needle, so it won't hurt. Just be sure to pinch your skin pretty hard and you won't feel a thing.

GL!

This is great advice! I didn't notice any side effects from the Ovidrel but I DID ovulate within 36 hours of taking it. Lots of luck!

Hi ladies,

I took Ovidrel on Monday of this week. Later that night i woke up feeling really warm, had a bad headache, and felt a little nausea. I took at test at 2am since i was awake and it was positive. I also took a test on tuesday and today(wednesday) and its still positive. Is this normal? I notice some cervical mucus and im really wet when DH and I bd.

Danielle--You'll get a +HPT for 7-10 days or so after your shot because it actually is a super-dose of the pregnancy hormone, HCG. The CM you're noticing is probably from ovulating. HTH and gl!

So how do i know if I actually did ovulate if the Ovulation test are going to be positive because of the drug? I go for bloodwork on monday and i guess ill have to wait and see. on monday it will be a week later since the drug. Will the blood test for P4 also show pregnancy as well?

Thanks for your help since im new at this!

No problem--we're here to answer each other's questions!

You know that you ovulated because a trigger shot MAKES you ovulate about 36 hours after you take it.

OPKs are not designed to tell you that you DID ovulate, but that you WILL ovulate. They actually measure luteinizing hormone (LH), the hormone that surges in your body about 12-48 hours prior to ovulation. The reason they pick up on human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is because LH and HCG are almost identical in structure. So that's why they're still turning positive: Because you have mega-amounts of HCG in your system. They'll stop turning positive as the HCG leaves your body.

A P4 test will not indicate pregnancy. Only a beta (which measures HCG) will do that for you.

HTH and don't hesitate to ask other questions.

ok im back. I just got my results from my p4 done this morning. I got 12 ml of Prog. The paper says that mid LH phase 5-18. Post menopausal is .1-.8,
first trimester of pregnancy is 4-50.

Well my doctor isn't going to call me until Wed because the offices are closed due to the roof collapsing. So i am definitely thinking that i ovulated with the clomid and ovidrel. What do y'all think? Just to refresh, i took the ovidrel last monday the 30th and today aug 6th was my P4 test. I think i have another 7 days until i can test for preg right?

Thanks again
Danielle

Hi,

I dont know if anyone is still checking this thread. But hey ill give it a try.

So i had my P4 test for ovulation and my results are 12ml. The doctor called me two days later and told me that i did indeed ovulate. So now i go in for blood work on monday the 13th for pregnancy test. I used a HPT today and got a negative and kind of dissappointed. Is it really too soon to test? I tested on tues and got a positive but then im thinking that maybe the ovidrel was still in my system. Who knows?
I get some sort of cramps-feels like my period is coming. Im have times when im moody and i feel fat-but then again i havent been eating all that great either.
anyway just wanted to update and ask a question.

Thanks again
Danielle

Danielle--Yes, more than likely the +HPT you got on Tuesday was still the trigger; it takes about 7-10 days to leave your system. It would still be a little early to get a true HPT; you're only about 9DPO. I would say try again Saturday if still no AF. And don't think AF is coming just because that's what you're feeling physically; early pg symptoms and PMS are a lot alike for a lot of women. GL to you!

Mellie, the worst side effect I noticed with the Ovidrel (and I've done 4 months with it so far) is bloating. My ovaries get a little enlarged for a few days and my abdomen gets a bit bloated. It lasts for like 2 days and then all is back to "normal," whatever "normal" is.
