I am new to this site but I am a 24 year old AA living in KC. I have yet to be officially diagnosed with PCOS but have the symptoms. I have talked to my doctor about it and he started me on Metformin 500 MG two times a day, so that he could see how that works. Regardless, I have hair on my chin, stomach, back, etc. I also have the absent periods. I have not had a period since Feb 18 2009!!! I have had several periods of absent periods in my life and when I lived in Omaha, NE, I had an ultrasound done to check my ovaries and everything out and I have also had blood work done several times to check out my thyroid etc...I also have the weight in my stomach and I began gaining a lot more weight in 3 months than ever before. So, I self-diagnosed myself with PCOS but will be going back to the doctor again soon to hear what my doctor says. Funny cuz my Dermatologist is the one that first mentioned that I probably had some insulin resistance going on b/c my acne is worse on my jawline and he said that that is seen a lot in insulin resistant issues. So, we will see what happens! I have been on Metformin for 2-3 months now with NO period! Anyone else on Metformin? How long does it take to get a period?

Hello cysters I am almost 29 and I have been trying since I was 19 really (I feel bad that I didn't take more consideration on what was happening to me) but I had other things going on. Well in (08) AF disappeared for 8 months and I freeked-made the only available appt. in March 09 there I was diagnosed. I've been really trying since 04 when I met my now fiance (who by the way has super sperm) (he has twins) but we want one together before I am 30. I am on a chit load of meds and quite frankly sick of it. So yeah cyster I can relate very well.
Hey un4getbl, welcome! I understand exactly how you are feeling. I am 25 years old and I have been ttc since in was 20. I just found out that I have pcos and I was so hurt. I decided that I am gonna do ivf. I'm so scared. I went to pick up my medications and it was 2 shopping bags full of medication. I am so happy to have found this site because it allows me the support that I need at this point in my life because no one else can relate. So you have come to the right place : )
Hey everyone I am new to this site and I think this is exactly what I need. I am 28 and turning 29 in less than 30 days. I am TTC but I am going the single route. I guess I am lucky that I live in a state where infertility tx is mandatory and covered by insurance plans. I was dx'd in 2000 after my Mom saw a Montel Williams Show and called me at school to tell me so I was officially diagnosed then. Went to see some older endocrinologists who really didn't know what it was so I didn't full up b/c in 2004 had GBP and lost over 100 pounds and had a steady boyfriend for yrs. I am now single and going to see my wonderful reproductive endocrinologist next month and let her know I am now ready to start the process. When I first met with her I was too busy trying to control my excess hair but I want a baby and since I am single and not actively looking, I am also going the route of a sperm donor. So we will see how this goes. Oh also I get regular periods and have been for the past 5 yrs. The last time I went to doctor to have a cyst removed she told me it seems I am ovulating but I still feel I am going to go thr way of IVF.
Hi ToyisTTC--I see we are going to be 29 soon, my question to you is do you have any kids? Or have you EVER been prego? Me no to both, it is funny to me b/c my gyn told me it looks like I have had 2 kids---you should have seen my face, but anyway glad you lost the weight (yay) my doc hates that I haven't lost any he wants me try Byetta Low Dose? Do any one know what this is or have used it to loose weight? But yeah I hope we get our wishes soon and very soon I would love to concieve, carry, and deliver a healthy one before I am 30. Best wishes and baby dust to all ttc
Hey, finally a sistah circle for reals!!!!!!!! LOL!
I'm 23 been ttc since 2005 just about. My DH is in the military and before he used to come and go so it was hard to really try, but now by the grace of God he is on shore duty for the next few years so we're ready to give it a go but again. Dx with pcos around 05 too I was having alot of ovarian pain and I hadnt had a period in months (which at first I wasnt complaining about) and since we had already been ttc I was sent to infertility and so the story goes... In the beginning I did clomid I had visual affects and we stopped immediately. Then moved on to injects but I started hyperstimulating so we stopped that too. Then the hubby was deployed to Iraq for a year so of course we were on a break. Now he's home and we were able to move closer to my mom, I feel like God is setting everything up just right! Im back with an RE and just did my first cycle with femara and ovidrel, unfortunately I dont think it quite worked out this time. So next time we're gonna look into iui and keep our prayers in line and our faith in check so that we can soon receive our blessing!
un4getbl- I havent heard of that med for weight loss, but you already know how I feel about the whole weight loss thing... LOL!
ms-nashay- im on metformin 100omg/day and I was on it for a few months before I started getting a regular period and at first they didnt come on a steady cycle but eventually they steadied up. It takes a while although sometimes it doesnt work when I first started taking it nothing happened and i took a break and started again and then it did. Some months tho I might miss one and have to get a jump start with provera. They say it helps with ovulation, but I think it depends on the woman. If its been that long since you've had a period you might wanna have your doc prescribe something to help you out, going to long without puts us at risk for endometrial (?) cancer because we need to shed that lining....

Thank you for your response MelaMarie04. I have been going to this black dermatologist for a little over a year now and as of a week ago, he referred me to a black woman doctor that specializes in endocrinology and gynocology issues. So, I called her and set up an appointment with her in a few weeks, so I can get a specialist view on the situation because I completely understand that it is not healthy to not have a period for so long. My other doctor seemed as if it were not a big deal but I know that it is. I know that it is going to be a long process trying to figure out what to do and treatment options, i.e. Metformin dosage and probably medication for the extra hair I have...Anyway, I wish you luck with ttc. Having difficulty ttc is one of my biggest fears and it is something that many of us cysters share. Keep trying and don't give up!!
And goodluck when you finally get in metformin! I hope it doesnt make you sick!!!!!!! I know most people get really sick, personally I threw up for like a week n a half but it was well worth it! once it's in your system your good to go...
afm... I'm definetly keeping my head up and staying positive! TTC is a difficult journey, but I firmly believe that the blessing you receive at the end of the trial is the best thing to look forward too! It definetly gets more appreciation! And I cant wait to be prego but mostly to be able to spoil my lil miracle! This past month didnt go so well... started af, but I havent lost faith, I have a feeling this time around might just be it! It's gonna be an extra special christmas. I just startd my meds yesturday too!
