Hello girls!!

ChitChat- Thanks for the encouragement! Hope pranayams and yoga help you. And the thing about getting bored of it is that when you are going to see some successful results, you will yourself cling to it even more. That might take some of your time and patience :-)

Stalwar – All of us struggle when we start something new in our life to adapt with it. But I am sure with sheer determination, you will make it a habit in your life. The best part is I find myself more calm and composed these days. You can include meditation slowly in your practice which should help you as well

mystery78- I am no yoga expert , lol! It is just that yoga runs in my family and was exposed to it pretty early in life, although I have started doing it regularly for only some time, So I am a beginner like you. You can join yoga classes at beginner’s level in case you want some professional help. I do pranayams around half hour on an average everyday, 15 minutes for some yoga exercises. But I also attend rigourous yoga classes once a week for 1.5 hours.
Sorry, you had asked the question about diets to Chitchat, but I would also like to share with you what my endocrinologist told me- low GI diet and to avoid carbohydrates specially while flour(maida). Try to put stress on bay, knowing that we all do stress with this PCOS at some stage or the other.

Wishing you all smiles!!

Ashima,
Thanks for the encouraging words. I hope for everyone on the thread TTC that it happens for you guys soon!!!!!
I myself was lucky enough to get pregnant and have my daugter by going on clomid and she is now 6!!!!!!! And actually got pregnant with my secon daughter naturally without any medication and she is 3 now. So I have been lucky in that sense, but now my PCOS symptoms are coming back and more severe now. And as the age progresses I am more scared of getting diabetes and other ailments due to PCOS.
I am trying to cut out the carbs and sugar from my diet to lose some wieght, but is difficult to cut carbs from an indian diest, ha.
Also I want to try the natural methods before going on BCP's as they have thier own side affects.
Did some yoga today morning, hopefully I can do it for at least 3 - 4days a week.
Thanks every one for your support!!!!!!!!!!

Suchika

Hi Chitchat - sorry for replying late, have been busy researching, researching and consulting .

thanks for the sharing the analysis on the Indian Drs. I am looking more at mumbai because my sister is based there... and think would help me to be around loved ones during the cycle time .. I am also leaning towards Jaslok and Malpani. My next step is to set up a consult with them...will keep you all posted...

I made the suggestion to my doctor after reading blogs where different people's doctor suggested lapro surgery. I had two different doctors tell me that it doesn't greatly increase your chances. I wonder if it is done to increase the size of their wallets?

I have suffered from PCOS symptoms since I started my period when I was 10 years old. I was bigger than most of the kids in school, but I was alot taller and I had breast compared to girls my age at the time. The weight wasn't an issued until I turned 17 years old. I had doctors tell me that my period would return to normal if I would lose 20 pounds but it never did. I wasn't formally diagnose with PCOS until I was 28 years old.

My doctor suggest that I stop taking the herbal supplements. According to him, there are not enough studies on the interaction of western medicines and herbal supplements. I managed to get my period to start coming in 45-60 day cycles (compared to years in between). I stop eatting alot of carbohydrates and concentrated on lean proteins. If you are Indian and a vegetarian, I know it is difficult. I started eatting more fish, chicken and green vegetables. The weight came off naturally without me trying.

After my last letrozole with IUI cycle was a failure in February, I took the time to reevaluate myself. I looked at religion, low carb diet, and setting realistic expections of getting pregnant. I changed to a Kosher diet and started reading the Quran. I started to relax more and try not to think about it too much because the stress is damaging. And when we get pregnant, women with PCOS have a higher chance of miscarriage. So be optimistic and at the same time realistic. Having a baby is something we dream of but if God doesnt want us to have a baby of our own, then maybe God wants us to give love and a home to a baby not our own.

I wish you luck. Maybe my experience would help and the years of asking questions and reading research would give you a baby you always dreamed of.

How long hv u been suffering from PCOS? Do you have any weight problems as well?

Hey ladies...

Ashima-thanks for the support and encouragement...I have been doing it for a couple of years now...but admit that have not been very regular...and probably you are right that I get bored coz I haven't seen great results in terms of cysts or regular periods but no doubt that I feel relaxed and active...so I must do it regularly...though I am a firm beleiver of yoga...my father is doing for ages now and has seen some dramatic changes like disappearing of moles and white hair...I feel more comfortable talking here to you ladies than him else I get a long lecture LOL...

Mystery-regarding the natural path there is lot to do...the most important is DIET...as others have said that low carb diet, less refined sugars is a must...easy way to start is to cut back on colas, fizzy drinks, white bread etc and switch to natural juice, wholemeal breads, trying eating early at night giving time to body to digest etc.. regarding the herbs there are many like Agnus Cactus (vitex), ginseng, saw palmetto, Gladitsia, cinnamon and so many you can find out by googling...now the fact is as mamasan said that one thing that western medicine never recommend it and second that there are not great number of studies to support them...these are based more on personal experiences of people and everybody is different so best is to research a bit about your particular symptoms and read a lot before deciding what is best for you...like I found out that agnus cactus could be helpul for me but haven't given a try yet...I concentrate a lot on vitamins needed for PCOS and infertility..like Vit A, C, E, B group....(I take orange, carrot and pineapple juice first thing in the morning, wholewheat seeded bread etc)...in herbs I take cinnamon powder mixed in honey sometimes...i have stopped taking peas...they are natural contraceptive...and nuts are good..mixture of pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and goji berries...both me and my husband take this...seeds contain zinc which is again very essential and goji berries are full of all what we need....this is all what I can recall now...LOL...but best is research read research read and then decide....all the best....

Stalwar..I am glad that you are looking for long term ailments associated with PCOS...it is great to keep your body fit and take precautions...when I started my journey I was only obssessed for a baby but after reading about the future consequences of PCOS only I switched aggressively to DIET and yoga...and that has also helped me in my TTC journey..all the best...

Hoping-how are doing..? If your sister is based in mumbai then definitely look for Jaslok and Malpani...these are even my first prefrences..but as I am based in Delhi so I will be looking for Nalini mahajan as well...keep us posted about your consult...and all the best...

Mamasan-this question has wondered me as well at various points that whether it is in my good interest or towards increasing the size of doctors wallet?....what I would suggest is that try reading some reviews on UK forums...I find this problem in India and US...as medical is private...in UK a lot is NHS funded so in that case there is less chance of this....hope this is of some help...

Anjali-I am thinking of you...hope you are doing good...!

Chitchat,
I was taking herbal supplements last year and I thought I was getting a period. I had it checked and it wasn't a period at all. I was actually bleeding but the blood wasn't coming out of my cervix. I have found that a low carb diet is working along with exercise. My period did come back by itself with no assistance from drugs, but in the normal 28-32 day cycle.

I have read some forums out of the UK and not alot had mentioned that their doctor recommended lapro. I have read more women out of the US and India were recommended lapro. Unless you have severe endometriosis with severe pelvic pain, personally, I think the doctors are padding their wallets.

Good luck to everyone.

Mamasan..

OMG I can't beleive that herbal supplements did so bad instead of being any good...I am sorry about that...its so terrifying that it was not period and actual blood...thanks for letting us know and it would be great if you can share what supplements were those so that in future if anybody wanna try can rethink or atleast monitor the dose...

Its great that diet has helped you..I do feel a lot of change with healthy diet..I feel more active and less stressed...

Regarding lapro...i donno much...but hope you get some info soon and may take the right decision...all the best..!!

congrats kyrie!!!!!

Welcome Ashima!

Well, for my personal experience for those of you looking into india...Jaslok hospital is huge and a very pretty bldg. Dr. Malpani's clinic takes up one floor of a flat in a sorta of run down looking bldg. I was nervous when I first saw his clinic, bt looks are deceiving. He and his wife and staff were phenomenal in making me feel comfortable and welcome. They all knew me by name and were always so nice.

An example...right now, I am stalled in my FET. My lining refuses to grow past a thin 6mm and I am already taking 20 pills of day of estrogen! So yesterday Dr. Malpani said he would not do a transfer unless he saw a change on Monday. So, instead of going ahead with the transfer, he said he did not want me to waste my great embryoes and would rather wait. So if my lining is cooperating on monday, i will have to extend my stay in a india for another week and have the transfer. If not, I will come back in December. Other docs might have proceeded with the transfer, but he was adament he didnt want to waste my embryos. I really really like and trust him. Not sure what the other hospital services are like, bt i really liked him and his wife...she was awesome! And to me, they really cared.

I had some mild OHSS and that has finally passed...other than that, i am trying to figure out how to get some ice cream from the city Baskin robbins to drown my sorrows for an hr or so.

Hope this helps!

~anjali

Korean here.. and yes PCOS is very common in Asian women that are on an Americanized diet. Or so my doctor says.

Anjali,

Good luck with your FET. Did you finally proceed with it?

I too am planning to visit Mumbai for an IVF cycle. Trying to decide between Firuza Parikh and Hinduja. Did you do research on Hinduja at all? She seems to be much less expensive than Parikh and Malpani.

I do have a question regarding accomodations in Mumbai, though. Could you let me know how you booked your hotel/flat and what is the approximate cost, if you don't mind?

Thank you.

Venus

Hey ladies..!

So I went the other day to bombay and my lining had grown a big amount...! So the docs were very happy and I am proceeding with my FET...its scheduled for the 22...I had to extend my stay by a week...bt its fine...right now, I chose to relax here in Gujarat at my in laws for a few days...

Venus...i chose Dr. Malpani because I suffer from both PCOS and endometriosis...i figured since I was flying halfway around the world...i wanted the most of my money...and Dr. Malpani was always so prompt and knowledgeable in answering my concerns and questions...He was actually priced about the same as a few other docs...not too much difference when I compared...but the quality of his care and his bedside manner was phenomenal...I could not have gotten a better experience anywhere else...his staff was fanastic...i really loved my experience there. Hope this helps...

Other than that...still on 20 pills a day of estrogen...and to put my 2 cents into the food topic...i try to stick to a low glycemic index diet rich in fruits, proteins, and whole grains...easier to do in the states than here in India...and its worked well for me...

I have only 3 days till the transfer and then 3 more days after till I come home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have 4 blastocysts frozen on ice...doc says that realistically half come out of the freeze ok...bt I am praying for 3...better chance of success...we will see...

Thanks for all your support ladies...Chitchat..you have been especially inspirational and motivating for me...after all you have gone through...the failed ivf..the ohss...thanks for the positive attitude!
