Hello Girlies,
I have some fabulous news. I have not been messaging for sometime but was just caught with all loads of stuff. The news is I am pregnant. Yes, I had quite a few blood tests, then my laproscopy, and the last blood test in the second week of November. Then i went away on a lovely holiday to New York. I got back and started to call the results of my test, felt sick one afternoon on eating something from out. Then went to the doctor to find I was pregnant. Now I can say women can get pregnant naturally without taking the pills. So wishing all of you the very best!
love
Shalini
hello peeps.
I'm 20 years old, Indian from India. I just read through the entire 8 pages of this thread, and I'd like to firstly say that its really nice to be able to speak to other Indians here.
It is true, based on what I've seen around me, that Indian woman do have tendency to suffer from PCOS. I know four women at least who suffer similar fates as me. However, the reluctance to discuss their symptoms stems from the way our society perceives women. I really don't know how supportive Indian husbands are of PCOS. The in-law fiasco that you guys mentioned is another damper. NJ spoke about arranged marriages and how to tell someone about your life, thats something that really is serious here. I know of a woman who never got her period, something seriously wrong, god knows- and her family didn't tell the boys parents. The boy knew- but after 3 years of marriage and constant dilemma, the family sort of fell out with the couple, bcoz of the whole 'no kids' thing.
About the docs here- they are knowledgeable about PCOS- infact there are many who deal exclusively with PCOS too (homeopathics especially.)
Personally, I was diagnosed when I was 14 and have since then battled the bulge. I have put on more and more consecutively, and am as of now 30 kgs overweight. I have lost weight in the past- and then regained it. I have facial hair, body hair and irregular menses.
Like all of us, PCOS tends to control and corrupt me life, but I try and look at life differently. I'm studying law, and probably am one of those women who men don't talk too much to because I intimidate them. (Not being narcissistic here, this is what my frnds have told me). Haven't got a love life to speak of, but I'm confident that I'm a good, honest, intelligent person. even though on most days I dont feel like it.
hey,
i'm indian too!! i have been reading some of the indian posts and feel like i have friends here. i've been diagnosed with pcos in 2005. i've always had problems with periods since puberty, but i was never overweight. since 2000 i noticed that my weight kept keeping up and no amount of dieting and exercising could bring it down. i was depressed!! i went to our family doctor and he said i wasn't exercising hard enough!! this happened for a few years and then i read about pcos in a magazine. iwent online, did research on it and found out i was a likely candidate. i made an appt with my ob/gyn and she ran tests that came back positive for pcos. since then i have been on metformim. i lost 20 pounds on it and was able to conceive because of it. i am back to my prepregnacy weight, but i still have 15 lbs to go. since january i have exercising religiously, but haven't lost a pound. i just want to be healthy for my kids. any pointers will be appreciated
i'm new here....a fellow indian cyster my main symptoms include really long, irregular cycles, cycles where i don't ovulate and definite hirsutism. i can say that this is the first place i feel comfortable writing that i am HAIRY...but it's pretty bad...and embarrasing! anyways, it feels good to know that there are others here too. i have been following a lot of the posts...and hope to meet some new friends and share/hear experiences.

p.s. congratulations, shalini!!! i am really happy for u!
And you guys, this forum is probably the best thing that has happened to me. I feel so much better listening to you strong-willed women taking pcos by the horns as opposed to letting it crush you.
I have been taking a break and have missed so much!
Congrats Shalini!
Luck is not on my side. I had to reschedule my lapasropic surgery until jan..and then I found out that not only do I have PCOS, but I also have endometriosis.!
So...I have been take a shot called Lupron for the last two months and am waiting to go to India in June for IVF. I have been researching alot and its cheaper there. I am headed to the Malpani clinic in Mumbai. I am ready for this. I am feeling like this is my best option having two infertility conditions working against me.
On a lighter note, it is great to have others from all parts of Asia to talk with. Welcome to all that came while I was on a break!!!

I am a "newbie" here, but was dx in August 2001 (right after I go married). I am a Sri Lankan living in the U.S. (Minneapolis, to be exact). I am lucky, because after four years of marriage we were blessed with a little boy and then two years later we had a little girl. And since we were told after my dx in 2001 that it was going to be difficult to get pregnant, I don't want to complain, BUT I do not have the energy for my energetic kids. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I am 30lbs overweight (from the two pregnancies), but I cannot lose the weight...I eat healthy and exercise.
Anyways, I just started on metformin (anyone else on it?) and I am hoping that will help with the weight loss and the low energy. It is very frustrating though, since all of my female relatives are thin, have energy and do not have hair issues (excess facial and body hair).
Well that's a first!! Charmaine, I'm Sri Lankan too! Nice to see a fellow Lankan on the board! Just happened to look into this thread and saw your message.
I'm a newbie here as well. Was Dx in 2004 with PCOS. I'm on Metformin as well - 1700mg a day. Have lost around 10lbs in one month since starting Met. Hope things goes great for you, and everyone else on this forum!
