Default Any cure for a short luteal phase ?

After taking Vitex for 3 months and not ovulating on my own, I have finally started ovulating (2 months in a row!!). The problem is that my luteal phase was only 10 days long last month. Now this month I O'd early (day 10). What can I do to lengthen my luteal phase, besides Vit. B6? Is there anything I can so to lengthen the follicular (?) phase?

Thank you,
Stefanie

Hey Collegegirl81,
First I am so glad to hear you are Oing! thats Awesome! Now if I read correctly vitex also helps with the short luteal phase so continue to be patient and diligent! has Oing helped with other pcos symptoms?

Default No change in PCOS symptoms

The Vitex has only helped with Ovulation. It seems as though, if I am ovulating on Vitex, that this would be the only result I would see ever. I mean, would there still be more benefits from Vitex (lengthening my luteal phase, etc.) after 3 months and ovulation? I'm sorry, I don't know how to say what I'm meaning to say, but maybe you understand? Thank you for your reply, Stefanie.

I took Vitex for almost a year and it didn't lengthen my luteal phase, so I kept miscarrying early. I introduced natural progesterone cream and it took three months to work (and I still got a break through bleed at 10 days, though it stopped after a day), but the pregnancy held and here I am 9 months later about to have a little boy! My understanding is the follicular phase isn't as important - you can still conceive well (I did) with a short one.

Start 2 or 3 days after ovulation so that you make sure it's confirmed that you have definitely ovulated (are you temping??) and use it for 12 days, even if you start to bleed early. Depending on how low on progesterone you are it will take varying amounts of time to work - usually doesn't work on the first month (as I said, it took me 3 months).

Absolutely - it's just bioidentical progesterone (i.e. the same stuff our bodies make in abundance when we're pregnant!). Make sure you don't stop it when you do become pregnant or if you aren't making enough you may miscarry. Once you hit 8 weeks the placenta should be making enough to take over, but I kept the NPC up until I was way past the 1st trimester just to be sure. I also added progesterone pessaries once I was pregnant.

Default What kind?

Jenna'sMum,
Thank you for the reply. Is there a specific kind I should get? I need something that doesn't require a prescription. Thanks, Stef P.S. The NPC lengthens the luteal phase, correct?

Where are you? Emerita is a good cream that you can buy in a health food shop in the US, but for any progesterone cream in UK, Oz or Canada you need a script (although you can buy it over the internet from anywhere). Check out your local library for the book by Dr John Lee 'what your doctor may not tell you about premenopause' - it goes into depth about the use of NPC. And yes, it does lengthen your luteal phase (if it needs lengthening!). Oh and just for the record, I'm pretty sure I ovulated on day 10 the cycle I conceived this baby. Good luck!!

Question Npc

I'm in the U.S. Are there certain ingredients that you know of to avoid, or look for in a NPC? Thank you

LOL - no problem! You just need to make sure it's got real progesterone in it, not wild yam (the body can't convert wild yam to progesterone - it needs to be converted first).
