Hi Monique,
I too was nervous, it's normal to feel that way about any major decision regarding changing your life. I did all kinds of research on weight loss surgeries, and decided on the band because of the minimal health risks and the fact that it can be reversed. It is slower than bypass, but research states at 5 years post op, they equal out. Being insulin resistant also makes it a little slower than those bandsters who aren't. I've had my band since Nov of 2008 and have a lost 35 pounds. I know it doesn't seem like a lot, but there is no way I'd be 35 lbs less if it weren't for this surgery. It isn't easy, and infact, take a lot of thinking and planning. I find that I don't lose if I don't eat enough protein. I'm not hungry most of the time which is very helpful, but it can also be a factor in not eating enough. I highly suggest joining a support group for bandsters, as we have completely different issues than all the other weight loss surgeries. I'd be happy to chat with you more if you have specific worries or questions.
Hope this helps, and good luck with your surgery. It was one of the best things I've ever done for myself...
Kristin
