Angry Any doctors in Ireland or UK

Hey there, can anyone help me out. I have PCOS but none of my doctors recognise it as a problem. They just say that I have to lose weight and it is my fault that I have this problem. I don't over eat and I do regular exercise so I can't see why it would be my fault. Does anyone know of any doctors in the UK or Ireland who could help me out please? I don't know how to treat this or anything. I hate these symptons as well - I have acne and hair everywhere. Am using a face cream but it is no good whatsoever. I am really overweight, have bad back pain and lack energy all the time. I get really bad head aches all the time and have real problems sleeping. I have a lot of depression as well and attempted suicide twice a couple of years ago.
Does anyone know someone who can help me out with this
Thanks and God bless, Shaz xxx

Hey and welcome.

Great to have another Irish cyster around, you're only the second one I've spoke to!!
Where do you live in Ireland??? I'm convinced most doctors here don't even know what PCOS is, their only response is go away and lose weight!!! But I certainly know of a couple of doctors in Dublin who might be able to help. Send me a private message if you want.

hi there

i dont knoe of any gp, in NI, but my gp here in hampshire is great, she too has pcos, so knows what she dealing with...she agreed for me to try metformin, 3 1/2 years ago, basically she used me as her guiniea pig, and within 6 months i was preggo...still on metfromin, have tried avandia, with her consent, and i have actually just got back from seeing her, and agian, she has agreed for me to try letrozole/femara, in ttc #2, all of this has happened without her sending me to any specialists...i did all that years ago, investigations/laparscopy/ovarian drilling, and clomid!!..nothing worked

good luck

Get on the ferry and pop over to Liverpool Womens Hospital. Try and get a referal from your GP or you can arrange a private appointment yourself with one of the consultants, cost about £130 and then tell him you then want the rest of your treatment listed on the NHS nad you will then just be accepted like anyone else. I have my first appointment their next month after being treated at my local hospital for the past 3 years. Apparently it is a great hospital and Dr.Kingsland is really clued up. I know £130 seems a lot but it wil get you there and you won't hjave to pay after that. If you are interested look up their website and it will give you a number to ring for private patients, sure they can advise you from there.

Good luck!

Thank you, the Liverpool doc sounds great, but I am not sure I could afford the expense of having to travel over there for each appt. We do have a ferry that goes to Liverpool, but unfortunately it is quite expensive. The docs fee doesnt actually sound too bad and I wouldnt mind paying that ifI got results, but the ferry could end up costing a couple of hundred pounds every time!

I will wait to see what my own doc says next week, cause this time I am not going to be so easily sent away. I am going more informed this time, so I might get on better. As a last resort though, I would definately consider this option, so thank you very much.
